I was hoping to see a great piece of work by Zwigoff (Ghost World, Crumb) but instead I was subjected to a funny, but rather pointless film. The script went nowhere, the two writers used cursing like it was going out of style (which got old after 10 min, Tarantino they are not) so many silly lines, it reminded me of the stuff my friends wrote in undergrad. The characters were unique, but again, there was little to no progression. I enjoyed some moments, but really, I was sadly disappointed, especially with the Coens producing...
It was one of those movies that had it's moments, but not much else. A few creative shots, but Zwigoff could have gotten much more out of this project. I kept sitting there wondering how better the whole show could have been if the Coen brothers directed (it would have been fantab!)
Bernie Mac for the first time I've seen him was NOT very funny...that's a bad sign as that guy just can't help but be a laugh-riot...
I'll leave spoilers out so as not to ruin the movie, for anyone that chooses to go (and do, if you don't have to pay more than $6)
Anyway, I just have to rant on how I was seriously disappointed by the flick...
Oh, I saw a critics screening in NYC, so it's not like I downloaded pirated a copy...
