They just told me my computer is junk. Ask me anything.
I was told that my computer can't be fixed because the motherboard needs to be replaced. The problem is the USB ports are loose so my all-in-one printer doesn't communicate with it or my mouse. This has been going on since I bought the POS over a year ago, I have not been able to print anything from my computer or scan anything through my computer.

I have gone through months of talking to technicians on the telephone or emailing technicians, under warranty, who couldn't help me but somewhat intimated that there should be no problem, so maybe the problem is me. I took the crap to local computer people who refused to work on it or tell me what was wrong because it was under warranty.

The warranties have run out and the local computer people have agreed to work on it, so I find out all I need is a card with USB connectors that will enable my all-in-one printer. No problemo. I am pissed. Oh yes my laptop is notorious for this problem. :argh:

Fuck you Compaq and Hewlett Packard.

9. CompUSA? Are you nuts?
Best place to look for a replacement mobo (or anything else PC-hardware related) is www.pricewatch.com (searchable street price index for computer parts and accessories, grouped by category).

...you can get a an "all in one Motherboard" for about a hundred bucks.
Putting it in is really not hard at all.

Get a book and save yourself some money....

16. $900 Bucks?
If you pay more than $200 for ANY motherboard you are getting ripped off. If you don't purchase on Pricewatch, go to a local computer show. The Lithuanian mob will be more than happy to sell you a motherboard for less than $100. Seriously. This is the easiest part of a computer to replace. A novice could do it. Just unplug everything from your old mobo and plug it into a new motherboard. Screw it into your case, and you're ready to go.

5. Tell me about it, considering that the original one
that came with the computer is shit. Not only that the technicians in my wood don't do it cheaply.

17. I don't think there will be any near future in going to LA
the way things are shaping up around here. Thanks for the offer NSMA. I do have some support here. You did admire my computer so don't buy it. My tech guy says IBM is much better or Toshiba for a laptop.

23. Thanks gethmord.
The PC card finally got it working. I have been through nine months of hell because of this and all it took was a simple solution like this that none of the support people would suggest it.

Yes, and welcome to DU!

13. For those who haven't bought
a Compaq or Hewlett Packard electronic device...don't! I'm kicking this up so you DON'T! Also, these two companies have merged into one bad ass cheatum the customer when we can. Apparently those who know them say that they put their products out to the cheapest bidder, so that one never knows what one gets. I have already been through the many layers of support either on line or by telephone that further removes them from any responsibility for their product.

Even the PC World I got tonite verified via charts that Compaq and HP are the worst. They will sell you a working computer and then treat you like a peice of rotting shit via tech support when it inevitably fucks up. The last Compaq I owned was a 1.7 ghz... and after owning it for a year it wouldn't run a game made in 1998!!! AFTER A RAM AND VIDEOCARD UPGRADE!!!!

19. HP/Compaq - no longer our standard
I manage a few hundred workstations and a couple of dozen servers for the company I work for. We have been standardized on Compaq for about 5 years. In the last year or so their quality has gone to shit, their support has gone to shit, their attitude has gone to shit and we won't be buying any more of their hardware. I don't think a ski resort in Wyoming is going to make any big difference to their bottom line, but I just don't want to waste any more of my time or that of my staff trying to solve problems that should never have happened.

Sunk costs are sunk costs. Out they go. You might consider the same thing.....

I am kicking this up so that everyone at DU, as well as lurkers, sees this and doesn't waste their money on what is a badly run company with garbage for a product.
