Parents' nickname for you when you were little

In fact, I didn't know my name was Ember until about third grade. I always assumed it was Emmy.

Is it a scary movie? Because mannequins freak me out.

But, hey, Kim Cattrell's in it.

On edit: Interesting, clowns have always freaked me out; never heard that about mannequins, although I can kind of see how that could happen. :scared:

Sairn = a horrible, horrible bastardization of my first name. My mom still calls me that. :puke:

The reason she started calling me that is really weird - in the disney movie "Lady and the Tramp" there's a scottie dog with a thick scottish accent, and he says "bairn" at some point, I think it's during the scene when he's trying to explain "the birds and the bees" to Lady. My mom heard it and decided to make a cutesy rhyme with my first name.

I also have another nickname - beaner. This one is sort of a rhyme with my second name. My Dad's side of the family (Dutch and English) invented this one. This is also, as I just recently found out, a derogatory term for Mexican-Americans. My family is very strange. :shrug:

Which is odd since it has nothing to do with my real name.

BTW -- no one on earth, until just now, knew that little fact about me.

And they still call me that to this day.

They never gave us any cutesy nicknames.

They just called me Jonathan. Didn't even shorten it to Jon. My mom actually hated when people did that.

I'm a Jason, but most of my family called me Jay when I was growing up. They don't really do that much anymore.

I guess they knew, even back then.

My brother and friends called me Scooter
My mother and father would sometimes call me Scooter Bill or Scotter-Roo
My Uncle called me Scott Andrew
Some jackasses called me Snot the Pot
And, my grandpa called me his Scotty and I told him my name was Scott.

I was "Scotty Boy" and sometimes "Scotten-Top".

I'm about to turn 49, and some relatives still call me "Scotty Boy".

It's like the damn Waltons, I swear.

I guess it's still applicable for my age, but damn it, stop calling me that! Scooter is okay if you're on family or close friend terms.

They would say a series of names until they found one that made a baby squeal with delight. That became the baby name. Thus, I became snicklefritz (a germanic surname), and my sister was kickapoo (an Indian tribe).

in pronouncing those names - you smile as you do it, neuromuscularly speaking. A linguist would have a field day. Babies would love not just the sounds, but the visual, also!

And Dutch - presumably because my dad's side of the family is Pennsylvania Dutch.

My Mom called me that for years - from a kid's song that I liked.

It was obviously a traumatic experience that still effects me today :)

My nephew gave me a better one - he shortened Jennifer to Fer, and then called me Fer Fer. Nothing better than the nicknames babies give to other people =)

her second favorite was "Sus-- Christi-- Kim, god dammit, get in here!" (she always yelled our names out in chronological order until she hit the right one)

My dad's mom did that. And she had 9, so it got a little difficult!

Plus, they all had nicknames.

Newell, Zora, Naomi, Cal, Lois, Joan, Hope, Gerard, and Judith became

Bum, Oah, Omi, Binky, Loie, Yan Yan, Hopie, Ward, and Judy.

God only knows how that woman kept her sanity for almost 80 years.

I really need to ask why, don't I?! While dating my husband he used to call me Stinky (I honestly don't think it was justifiable.) Recently I asked him why he doesn't have a pet name for me - so now he calls me 'the.' Probably as in 'the wife' which he knows I hate. Special, ain't it?!

As in "Nanook of the North." My grandpa Bill called my brother Chuck "Stonewall" and me "Jackson."

called me "Emmaline" after a character in a children's book, "Emmaline the Elephant." The book came with a small, stuffed red elephant that I loved. Mom still calls me "Emmaline" once in a while.

I was born premature and my dad always said I wasn't any bigger than a peanut. (I was of course, but not by much)

My first name starts with C, my middle name starts with J. They started calling me C.J.----but, then they got lazy and reduced C.J. to Ceege. Go figure.

It was 'The Tad' before I was born, then 'Tad' after I was born. And to my family, and an ex boyfriend from over thirty years ago, it still is.

Maybe that provides a tad bit of insight as to why we no longer have a relationship.

It hurt me then, but in a back-handed way made me stronger in the defience of words used that intentionally hurt now; I don't let it bother me anymore..

She calls me JeRP. Like jerk with my initials. Some of my friends call me Beaker.

I have no idea why. My dad is peculiar.

but my mom called me Mickey Jo. One of my Italian great-uncles used to call be DagoRat since I was half Italian and half German Irish. He passed away when I was probably around 3 so it never stuck.

Dad called me "Sweetie" and "Punkin," neither of which I much appreciated until after he was gone.

My dad used to call me this. I'm not sure why. I suspect because my name is Sarah and my dad's from the South, so it just kind of worked out this way. :D

Mom gave me "duck" because I was born with a dislocated right hip that caused my foot to turn inward at a 90 degree angle; I needed splints to correct the malady. Besides, I began walking when I was 6 months old, and because of my dislocated hip, Mom said I looked like Donald Duck when I toddled about.

My dad is the only one who ever called me Ninny Feesoo, and I was probably 18 before I ever put two and two together. I had never really thought about where he came up with it, and one day I did start to wonder, and it took me all of a half second to _get it_ then I felt dumb for not knowing sooner.

I grew up babysitting and the one I was closest to, I watched twice a month from the time he was born until about age 3 and he grew up calling me Ninny. Actually, it was one day talking to my fiance (now hubby) about Kaleb and how he always called me Ninny that I realized why my dad did too.

on account of my nose-wiggling abilities.

I used to run around the house (and I could run fast) and they said when I would run, I was just a blur.

I never had a nickname. They used to call me the Kangaroo, because I was the unbeatable Sack-Race jumper, and a weird jumping style that beat even my school's teacher.

We had a 6 school olympic style race, and I won it too. Before the race, my uncle told me he'd buy me an Empanadilla (dough turnover with meat inside) and a Coca Cola. Baby...I was gonna get me that Empanadilla! I won the race.

When she was mildly mad she called me Missy....

Really mad she would call me by my given first and middle names....

Ballistic...she would call me Robbie...

She, also, called me Robbie as a nickname of endearment....

I was the fourth girl and when my mother was pregnant with me, they referred to the unborn fetus - me - as George. Some relatives call me Georgie to this day. Had to insist they call me by my given name in my 20s. The cutesy BS was becoming anorexic.

WHich, apparently, is a children's book I can no longer recall.

Because I loved to argue with everything. To this day, my favorite thing to ask is "Why?". Somebody tells me to do something and I always say "Why?" (even to my boss which no doubt drives him crazy). Just a knee-jerk response I guess but I need an explanation for everything.

That's what I usually got. That's what she got for having 4 kids who drove her crazy.
