Now that ATA is no more and I can't be bothered writing admins who don't write me back (I'm talking to YOU, EarlG :P)...

So if I were to start a perfectly legitimate thread asking why, evolutionarily, men have nipples...would you lock it? Or would you allow it to be discussed until the inevitable wise asses appeared and *turned* it into a sex thread?

These are the things that keep me up at night. :cry:

Embryos develop asexually for a period of time past the point the gene that codes for nipples is activated - so both boys and girls get them before those genes on the y chromosome (that make a boy a boy) are turned on.

11. I understand *how* they have them...
just not *WHY* they have them. Evolutionarily. It's not like a vestigal tail or the little membrane thingy in the corner or your eye. What purpose, if any, did they EVER have? :shrug:

Heh. I can just have my thread here, in the safety of a mod's "No sex threads" thread. :D

15. I've heard this reason:
They act like pacifiers to give something for babies to suck on while mommy's nipples take a break. Observed amongst our primate ancestors if not us all too often.

course they also make for handy thingees to dangle jewelry from apparently.
