Major League Baseball to begin Steroid testing in March
There goes David Wells' career. :eyes::bounce:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1661145

NEW YORK -- Starting next year, steroid users in baseball will be subject to suspensions or fines.

Under baseball's labor contract that took effect on Sept. 30, 2002, testing with penalties begins after any season in which more than 5 percent of survey tests are positive.

Of 1,438 anonymous tests this season, between 5 and 7 percent were positive.

Starting next year, a first positive test for steroid use would result in treatment and a second in a 15-day suspension or fine of up to $10,000.

The length of penalties would increase to a 25-day suspension or fine of up to $25,000 for a third positive test, a 50-day suspension or fine of up to $50,000 for a fourth and a one-year suspension or fine of up to $100,000 for a fifth. The suspensions would be without pay.

4. I've posted this before but Giambi was on so much juice
early in the minors that he has to get testosterone shots weekly now.

I see no mention of Mark McGwire in this. I know he is retired but my best friend tells me that his incredible year and then collapse just after that (with lots of little nagging injuries) in a textbook case of someone on steroids. The injuries may not have really existed but no ballclub is going to announce that their star has runn himself down with steroids. Just a thought.

5. Jose Canseco
admitted to using steroids, and claimed that the majority of players were using.

"The Journal's story does not name these other players, but says that according to publishing insiders, Canseco in the book will admit for the first time his own extensive steroid use and will "name names" of other major leaguers who used the drug as well.

When he announced his retirement last month, Canseco suggested that 85 percent of all major leaguers took steroids. He initially would not admit if he took steroids, himself, saying he would give details in his book."

Also, how many have been using the designer steroids, THG and others, which would go undetected in drug tests. Only wannabes up from the minors would still be using the detectable steroids.
