When some people pointed out that Tyler had never supprted the Whig platform, the Whigs faced the issue by developing a new slogan, "We'll vote for Tyler therefore, without a why or wherefore."

Harrison got roaring drunk on inaugural day, delivered a three-and-a-half-hour diatribe in the freezing rain, caught pneumonia, and died a month later. When the Whig congress passed the bill for a federal bank shortly after that Tyler vetoed it. His entire cabinet resigned in protest, and Tyler appointed mostly Democrats from then on.
