Need advice on MP-3 service
I just bought a Rios and would like to download MP3 files, I don't
want a huge service fee or software that will hog up my computer,
is there any MP3 lite sites?

1. You could always use P2P software like Soulseek or Ares
But if you'd prefer to go the more "legal" route, I've heard good things about iTunes and Rhapsody. Can't speak from experience though.

2. I'd recommend iTunes if you are going the legal route... 99 cents per.

for the less than legal route I use limewire and several bit torrent programs for whole albums, Azureus is a good free one that's spyware free.

5. Loads of free, legal music out there...

Generally as samples from indie or up-and-coming bands... download all these just with your web browser, no fancy software.

Amazon.com has a few hundred MP3s to download for free:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/468646/

MP3 blogs have dozens of songs a day, frequently the very newest releases. Try these:
http://www.3hive.com
http://blog.largeheartedboy.com
http://www.stereogum.com
http://www.scenestars.net
...each of those has links to many, many other blogs. Find the ones that suit your tastes. And don't forget to check their archives.

Salon.com features several daily downloads, plus an archive of their past offerings.

The motherlode of free, legal live music is: http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php

www.epitonic.com has a huge number of free songs from a huge number of artists... great for "recommended if you like" type links for discovering new bands.

And check the websites of your favorite artists... lots of them have free songs, demos, live tracks, etc. For instance, you can download the entire new album from Amyhedges.com -- sometimes these have lower "sample rates" so may not sound quite as clean as a CD, but for the car, or your computer speakers (and for free) it's a great deal.

6. I recommend you steal enormous amounts of music
Of course, I hate the music industry, I am going deaf, and I am cracked to begin with.

Sometimes, theft allows you to find interesting stuff, like Tony Randall's folk music albums, Rusty Warren's Knockers Up!, or Timothy Leary's spoken-word albums, all of which are out of print, probably with good reason.

Plus, I graduated from theft to high treason. At least, that's what the right-wingers tell me.

and I want to download music on-line w/o getting a 2nd mortgage.
