Talking about classic Sci-Fi remakes: Don't forget "Space Patrol"
A year before Star Trek: Commander McLane and his crew fight mysterious aliens called "Frogs" onboard the cruiser Orion VII. Doesn't sound that interesting?
Well strictly speaking it doesn't, but McLane and his crew are speaking German. It is: "Raumpatrouille Orion".

It is a campy 60s b/w sci-fi series with surprisingly well done effects; the cinematic release is probably the best MST3K episode that never was made. A real shame.

(the soundtrack isn't quite as bad as one might expect either)

And yeah, I am guilty: I own the super special edition DVD Tin box. Complete with all episodes, soundtrack, the movie, a uniform top (XL) and stuff. To my defense: It was a bargain at under €20.

1. I have heard of it
Always wanted to check it out. You give it a thumbs up then?

I love "foreign" SF. The russians made some damn good ones.

2. Well, for collectors of obscure Sci-Fi
It is campy non-english sci-fi from the 60s: great fun with a couple of friends and a few beers.

The box I bought has enough added value to make it a good buy for people with region 2 PAL equipment, but I very much doubt that it is available stateside.

3. Maybe someday
I have Amphibian Man from Russia and some would call it cheesy and it sure is obscure but I was watching it 1n 1969 and my parents made me leave so I had to buy it to find out how it ended.

but no plans for a NTSC version. Nor for an English subbed cinema version - the best format would have been MST3K anyway ;-).

On Edit: To my surprise I discoverd that the movie version came with English subtitles.

Considering that the Enterprise set mostly consisted of IKEA furniture and Evian bottles, the Orion set isn't too shabby.
