Go see "Serenity".

It's a sci-fi flick I hadn't heard too much about, but I was bored and it was new and I went.

Wise decision.

There's surprising depth to it, if you're watching for such stuff. The surface story is also clever, and the hero (Nathan Fillian) is well-written, albeit yet another Han Solo ripoff. There's a great bad guy (Chewetel Ejiofor), and a crew that seems to have a bit of depth to their backstory that would be worth exploring.

And the subject of all the excitement is a sweet young thing I'm sure we'll see more of (Summer Glau). http://www.summerglau.co.uk/

Ya gots yer starships. Ya gots yer space fights. Ya gots yer kung fu fights. Ya gots yer space port bar scene (excellent and of a design I've dreamed of seeing on the screen for years). Ya gots yer interstellar chases. And it's all put together very well, and I had a great time.

I consider it a success if, during the showing of the movie, I never once look up and think "Oh, yeah. I'm watching a movie." This one was a rousing success.
