Help! I'm looking for a word
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 07:50 PM by Rabrrrrrr
A word fopr the feeling of when a person knows time is short and has to deliver a final message and they know it's getting to be their last chance to do it (a mom dying of cancer who needs to confess something; or a mentor who is dying and wants to give the last bit of wisdom to his mentee).

Something like "a sense of urgency", but I don't think urgency is the word I am looking for.

I've been trying to come up with for about an hour, and the thesaurus hasn't helped yet.

3. Sense of panic...
overwhelming urgency... relentless nature of time.... immediacy...need for closure...

that's all I can think of at the moment.

Maybe it's on your head.

On edit... I like Denouement... but I don't think it's quite what you're looking for.

6. Urgent finality.
I don't think there is any one exact word for what you're describing. Go to the poets if you want an artistic phrase.

12. But it doesn't have to be dying
Just any time the person knows the time is short, and this is their last chance to do whatever.

13. Got it! Exigency!!
YAY!!

God I hate it when I can't find the word that I already know, but my brain won't serve it to me. I've been noticing a lot more of that in the last month or so.

Do you think is a warning sign of some sort? Not enough rest? Possible medical problem? I'm not even 40, so this seems rather young to be so often stuck for words. It's been happening like every other day or so.

14. Maybe you should try
Dianetics?

Or have a basic physical. Too much glucose, too much cholesterol, not enough vitamins or exercise can all lead to brain fog.

Becoming vegetarian helped my concentration powers a lot. However, going on a veggie diet of Pringles and Red Bull reversed my gains! :-(

15. Of course! I should immediately have thought Scientology!
:P

Probably I should get a physical. I have been delinquent in that area.
