Whadja have for dinner?
We had eel donburi.

I tried to make unagi sushi with the eel and rice:

But I made some mistakes. First, I made the sushi rice with a bit too much water so it was a little too soft and hard to form. Didn't let it cool enough (we were HUNGRY) before trying to form it, so again it was somewhat hard to form coherent sushi rice bricks. So about half the sushi that I made were falling apart, and that's why I decided to go the donburi route with the remaing half of the eel.

Also the sesame seeds I had toasted up nice but stuck to my fingers when I was trying to put them on the unagi sushi. Still works better if you are shaking them out of a shaker or have the fancy dispensers like in the restaurant.

So I know in the future: Make my sushi rice with a LITTLE bit less water. Give it plenty of time to cool before making sushi. Come up with an alternate plan for sesame seed application.

It was all still pretty tasty though!

54. I just saw your post
At Iftar gatherings, we break the fast with dates and juice. Then we'll just have a normal Pakistani dinner (curry, kababs, rice, etc.) When it's just my husband and I (as is usual), we don't make a production; just eat our usual foods.

23. Unagi sushi is my favorite!
So where do you get the eel? I've made sushi only once, and have since decided to leave it up to the experts. I plan on grilling chicken and zucchini for dinner, but I suspect I'd better get out of my "jammies" and get dressed, if I plan on going out into my yard. Don't want to scare my elderly neighbors! Yes, it's been one of those cocooning days.

34. I just made an awesome chicken/turkey tetrazini
Had a little leftover turkey and two barbequed chicken breasts from last night. Took off all of the meat from the bone and cut it into cubes. (ABOUT TWO CUPs) Added a can of cream of chicken soup, 1=1/2 cup of milk, 3/4 cup of parm cheese, some onion and garlic powder and a big handful of sliced fresh mushrooms. Blend all together and then poured over about a pound of cooked spaghetti. Mix. Bake at 400 for about 25 minutes, covered. Serve with a caesar salad and hard bread.

40. Tacos with rice and beans, and homemade applesauce ice cream
I'd never done applesauce ice cream before -- it came out pretty well.

And when you're making sushi rice, have someone fan it (or put an electric fan on low) as you sprinkle the seasoned vinegar over it. It'll help the steam out of it, and allow the vinegar into it.
