Best Comfort Food.
I have no appetite and the thought of food makes me wanna puke. I need to eat merely for sustainance, so I shall. Life sucks a bit right now (once again, surprise, surprise) and it probably won't change anytime soon, but I will deal with it tonight with comfort food.

Tonight it's cold pizza that was ordered out earlier and ice cream after.

What's your favorite comfort food, so I can make my menu for the next week?

I like a nice plate of scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage, some grits, and a couple of pieces of toast with jelly.

Stir them in, add some cooked, crumbled bacon, top with buttered bread crumbs and bake.

It's definitely not diet food!

22. You actually don't need to
go to the trouble of baking it. Just make the mac and cheese and add the rest into the pan on the stovetop. I leave out the milk and add extra shredded cheddar. Drain them 'matos really good tho.

When I was in my 20's and single, I would go lay on the couch at my parents when I didn't feel good and let my mom take care of me. It was just the place to be when I felt crappy.

25. If you actually feel up to doing a little shopping
and very little cooking, this is excellent and an old roommate of mine used to beg me to cook it when she was PMSing:

4 ground sirloin patties
1 can Campbell's Golden Mushroom Soup
sliced mushrooms of your choice
worchester sauce
salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cinnamon (yes, I said cinnamon)

Brown the sirloin patties in a little butter or margarine in a skillet. In a bowl, mix the soup and the rest of the ingredients--the salt and pepper to taste and about 2 teaspoons or so of the garlic powder and cinnamon. (Sorry, I never measure!) When the patties are almost done, smother them with the soup mix and simmer on low for about 5 minutes.

Serve with Garlic Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes

Prepare instant mashed potatoes according to package directions for 4 servings except omit the milk. Add about a half cup of grated parmesan, about 1/2 to 2/3 of a the smallest carton of sour cream and garlic powder to taste. You'll never know they are instant when you're done mixing all of this together.

Really excellent comfort food and not alot of prep!

(During a similar bout -- no appetite, didn't want food, lost 20 pounds and you've met me so you know just how much that is on me...)

Chicken noodle soup (aka Jewish penicillin) is good comfort food, as is homemade applesauce. If you're so inclined, baking bread (specifically hand kneading it) can be a good stress reliever.

Now I think it's rotini and Cheese with Broccoli. Ever since I had my wisdom teeth out and I ate it for a week. it really did make me feel better. Just make sure you eat some fruit with it or there will be no BMs for a week.

46. Chicken noodle soup is always a good idea.
Also, I add fresh tomatoes to all sorts of dishes -- soup, macaroni and cheese, etc.

A Grillers Prime veggie burger topped with cheese, mayonnaise, ketchup, and pickles is also good.

And you can't beat home-made chocolate pudding for comfort food. It's surprisingly easy to make.

In a saucepan, blend together 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa, 2/3 cup white granulated sugar, a dash of salt, and three tablespoons of cornstarch.

Gradually blend in 2-1/4 cups of milk (skim is fine). Then cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. Bring to a boil and boil for one minute, stirring constantly and being careful not to get burned by angry, spitting chocolate pudding! :-)

Remove from heat and blend in one teaspoon of vanilla and two tablespoons butter or margarine. I sometimes use peanut butter instead of margarine.

Remember: Some like it hot (but don't burn your mouth).

50. That's what aunties are for.
They make lumpia in groups of hundreds, stocking entire freezers full of them. If you have Filipina aunties, you will always have a good supply.

If you don't have a biological auntie, I suggest cruising bingo parlors and Catholic churches. One of them will notice how skinny you are (regardless of how heavy or light you actually are) and will reward you with lumpia.

Warning: Never tell a Filipina that her lumpia isn't the best you've ever had. :)

73. Anything my mother makes.
If I were in a situation where the thought of eating made me puke, I'd have some bland comfort foods like mashed potatoes or rice. (Every once in a while I like rice with just butter and salt or rice with butter and cinnamon sugar.)

Other comfort foods...

Macaroni and milk (strange, I know, but I learned it from my dad. It's just cooked macaroni with a little butter and a little warm milk)

Macaroni with butter and Parmesan cheese

Homemade macaroni and cheese (especially with tomato and bacon)

Freshly baked white bread with real butter

Meatballs and ham served with twice-baked potatoes and glazed carrots

Scalloped corn

Hamburger hotdish

Pumpkin or apple pie

Pumpkin or banana bread

Ants on a log (peanut butter stuffed celery sticks topped with raisins)

Scrambled eggs with diced summer sausage (My very wise mother remembered how much I loved that dish as a child and came over to our house to make it for supper for my husband and me the day I came home from the hospital after losing a pregnancy - it was very comforting to have her in my house cooking a childhood favorite for me.)

Cranberry orange relish

Lefse

Homemade soup - especially turkey, ham or potato

Waffles

Grilled cheese, especially if served with a mint-chocolate chip malt

80. They have plenty of room!
My kids and I stayed with them for several weeks on summer vacation this year and last.

And yes, they fed us very well while we were there!

My dad makes fantastic spaghetti sauce, and he might ask you to join him in having a Manhattan during cocktail hour.

Count on Mom to make homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast once in a while.

Or Mashed Potatoes and gravy. Or Potato salad.

It has to be starchy, whatever it is.
