Lost thread - - ***WARNING-SPOILERS!!!!!*****
Holy crap...is Locke's dad the one heading up the Dharma Initiative? Cathyclysmic thinks that was him in the orientation film.

What a kickass show...

4. I think it's a gigantic Skinner Box.
Remember, the orientation film mentioned the researchers' study of B. F. Skinner.

5. I don't know but it does seem like an group
control experiment...remember in the film BF Skinner was cited as an influence.

http://www.psybox.com/web_dictionary/skinnerbox.htm

Skinner box - Apparatus invented, unsurprisingly, by the BEHAVIOURIST Psychologist, B F SKINNER. The Skinner box was essentially a means of gathering a lot of data about the learning behaviour of rats and pigeons in as short a time as possible. It consisted simply of a box in which the animal was placed, a lever and dispenser for food pellets. Attached to the lever is a recording device, to tell the experimenter how many times and at what point the lever is pressed by the animal. the great advantage of using such a piece of equipment of course is that the experiment essentially runs itself and the experimenter can go home and go to bed safe in the knowledge that he is gathering data even as he sleeps.

3. Oh good.... someone please tell me...
I missed the scene directly after Jack and Locke picked up the film cannister entitled "Orientation". The rest of the scenes I watched implied they had viewed it and that the film gave a reason as to what the underground complex was and the consequences of not pushing "execute" before the timer runs down...

What was the film they watched?

6. Oh my, you missed a crucial part.

It was rather vague, but apparently the hatch is #3 of six such stations around the world. The narrator of the film never really mentioned why the button needed to be pushed every 108 minutes, though.

on edit- I saw your other post. Whoever responded was right- the film skipped when the narrator stressed the reason why the button must be pushed.

http://www.thefuselage.com (sponsored by J.J. Abrams and the show's creative team.)

There's also a pretty good forum on the official ABC site, but I forget the url right now.
