If someone says I'm "out of station" instead of .........

"out of town"..... does that indicate anything to you? Is that a phrase from another culture....a military thing....?

2. Where I grew up you said "outstation" all the time.

As in "I'm out station this week"
It was a former British colony - maybe is a British-ism is my guess.
