Maybe I'm not too far off, though.

What're you doing posting this in GD, anyway?

3. Carl's, but just because their commercial angered the right! Actually
I've never tried either, being a vegetarian, and never having even see a Carl's restaurant, to the best of my knowledge.

20. The funny thing is...
Carl Karcher, the founder of Carl's Jr., was a major Right Wing crank. Carl's Jr., while he still owned it, was boycotted because of Karcher's support for anti-Gay bills in the California State Assembly, his support of Operation Rescue, that sort of thing. The shareholders eventually convinced him to retire, and very shortly afterwards Carl's Jr. started supporting Gay Pride parades, donating money to "liberal" charities, etc.

Needless to say, they're not boycotted anymore.

10. Silicon Valley (CA) Burger King & Carls Jr. shortcomings...
I don't know of a Burger King in the area that actually "fresh cooks" their burgers (versus tossing them in the microwave). Often, rather than a fresh, hot burger, the meat is "room temperature."

Bay Area Carl's Jrs, on the other hand, are the greasiest and most vile burgers on the planet...at least in this area.

If anyone reading this lives in the area and knows of a Burger King that serves HOT burgers and a Carl's that serves burgers that AREN'T swimming in fetid grease, post the location and consider it a public service.

:patriot:

I know it depends on the franchise, but if you want a decent burger in this area, go to In-n-Out. It's not Angus beef, but it won't make you roll around on the carpet clutching your abdomen an hour after you eat it, either.

They also leveled and re-built the "Kirk's Steakburger" on Bascom in Campbell...the old place was a real toilet, completely run-down. Decent burger, REALLY expensive. But they're "real" burgers, and the milk shakes use "real" ice cream.

15. The Crimson in Los Gatos...
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 12:38 AM by Bush_Eats_Beef
There's a place in Los Gatos that isn't a chain, it's a stand-alone restaurant in a yuppie, "money neighborhood" strip mall (15466 Los Gatos Blvd, Los Gatos, 95032 - (408) 358-0175) that serves an Angus burger the size of yer fuckin' head. It's HUGE (expensive, too), but if you want the real deal, and you can stomach having a meal surrounded by pain-in-the-ass, trust fund kiddie, cell-phone squawking' yuppie assholes, the Crimson's Angus burger is the one to beat. It REALLY has a STRONG steak taste.

It's HUGE. You could put WHEELS on the sumbitch and drive it around town...it's THAT BIG.

12. But here's the rub
In-N-Out is owned by fundies. It's one of the best chain burgers available, but every time I eat one I feel like I'm paying for assholes marching around the hospice Terri Schaivo was at.

Luckily, there are a lot of great independent burger joints in SF.

I get one of these every two months or so. With a vanilla shake, we're talkin' $30 a year. I can live with that.

26. Yeah, but they are really tasty.
I don't eat red meat anymore (somehow I'm still not a fan of PETA, though), but if I was going to have a burger, it would probably be an In & Out.

I'd do penance by dropping a check to Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Best fast-food burger in the world. I look all over for them if I'm ever out west.

Anyone with access to In-n-Out should never consider any other fast-food burger.

I'm jealous.

25. The burgers are good
The shakes are really good.

The fries are only good warm. They get nasty quickly.

I used to joke that the reason the drink cups have Bible verse numbers on the bottom is that the fries need all the help they can get.

24. Carl's Jr, without a doubt
Damn I miss Carl's Jr. right now. The Angus burgers were good.

There's Hardee's here in Qatar, but their burgers are vile. I don't know if it's a problem with Hardee's, or the halal beef used here. I suspect the halal beef though, since I haven't had a decent burger since I got here.

31. Man, that stuff is crap!
Get yourself to Oregon or Washington, go to a Burgerville, and then we'll talk.

Just go check this out http://www.burgerville.com

They are a fast food chain that buys local fresh ingredients, including their grass fed beef, and is way into sustainable food practices.

They are very seasonally minded, so in the fall we get sweet potato fries, in the summer we get blackberry shakes, in the early summer we get strawberry shakes and strawberry shortcakes.

No, I don't work there, and I don't go all that often, but when I do I don't feel bad about it, because I know I am supporting local sustainable agriculture and ranching.

Really, it's the way all restaurants should be.
