MP3 players: Recommend something to me that ISN'T an overpriced Apple
I'm thinking of replacing my Sony mini-disc with an MP3 player that has a permament hard drive (Mini-Disc uses discs that hold about 3 hours of music each).

I know the Apples are the gold-star standard but you also pay through the roof to own one. And I hate those shuffles because I have no control over what music I will hear or a display to show it.

Anyone else have good experience with any of the other MP3 players that are reasonably price (I'd like to stay under $125 but will stretch a little if it was worth it). I need about 0.5-1 gig of storage space and I have decent headphones so I don't care if the standard ones are crap.

Advice please!

Might help you.

They don't make them anymore, but you could probably try to find a Rio Karma on Ebay or something. 20gb and a quality player.

2. I got an RCA Lyra 128MB for $50
and it's serving me just fine. Plays about 2 hours of music on its own, but it has a space to add a memory card (like the type used in digital cameras) so you can add up to a GB of music at a time.

4. I have one of those. Love it!
Plus, the headphones are better than those that come with the iPod.

5. ipod minis aren't much more than your limit -
I've got one that hold 4 GB - think I paid $179 for it.

I didn't want an ipod either, until I saw one in action. They really are nifty devices.

6. I had an I-river
I liked it a lot but I thought the Sony Mini-disc would be better. Bad move..lol. It's cool, but just not what I expected.
The I-Rivers are good.
