Tonight's Hockey Thread
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 07:22 PM by strategery blunder
I'm listening to the STL/SJC game. Dammit, the Sharks just scored on the power play:grr: And I have another rant...

The game was supposed to be televised on the WB, but the WB here in Kirksville (MO) is broadcasting utterly useless crap:mad::mad: So now I'm reduced to the streaming audio, which has pitifully anemic volume. I have to strain to listen to it, even though my computer is on full volume. Apparently it's only broadcast within STL proper.

:nuke:

Sometimes I hate being in teh sticks.

Edit: Dammit, 2-0, San Jose now...

3. Watching the Leaf/Canadiens game on CBC
Hockey Night in Canada. Nachos in the oven, 44" screen, tivo power...life is good right now, although Montreal is up 3-2 after 2.

So far I am really digging the new rules, although the refs could lighten up a bit on all the penalties and let them go a bit.

4. Yeah, I've noticed that too...

too bad I can't actually WATCH the game!:grr:

In better news, the Blues scored again!!:woohoo: Holy sh*t, 5 goals in one period!:wow: 3-2 now

pp goal, Scott Young

Edit: If they set out to make scoring easier, I think they've succeeded if tonight's game is any indication

5. For the T.O./Mont. game...
it was 0-0 through the 1st, then a barrage of goals in the 2nd with 5.

Certainly with the news rules etc., salary caps which also rejigger trading options etc foe everyone, it's going to take some time for all these changes to take hold.
Honestly though, I think it will open up the game, the lack of the 2 line pass sure does wonders!

6. The second period just started...
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 08:08 PM by strategery blunder
I wish I could watch the games, but my cable is teh sux0rz. It just isn't the same with radio...I can't see passes glide across the neutral zone without the refs interfering and such...I'll have to take your word for it.

But I believe it.:)

Edit: STL just scored, pp goal, 4-2 now:bounce:

7. Leafs go ahead!!!! 4-3
Nice hard work goal!

Dude, I'm sorry for your situation listening vs watching.

I only get Hockey Night In Canada..which is fine by me. I don't get any ESPN's so no other games.

Come the playoffs, I'll get some ABC games as well as lots of hockey on CBC.

Shit! As I typed this the Habs tied it up!

I don't mind the Leafs too much...anyone who is the enemy of Detroit is my friend.;)

Haven't had much happen since I posted last, except lots of penalty-killing.

Edit: Damn, right after I finished typing this, SJC scored, they're back within 1. 4-3 blues

12. And crap...they took the lead and held it.
Not freakin' out yet, cause the Leafs have been playing pretty decent for the most part. Once they shore up some problems with bad d-zone coverage at times, they'll be a pretty strong team.

13. It's waaaaay too early for panicking....
Lindos is looking good. One thing that always pissed me off about the Leafs the past few years is why Pat Quinn doesn't use Tie Domi more..the guy works his ass off. Is always solid, and scores some great goals.

Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 08:30 PM by strategery blunder
Jeff Hoggan just got his first-ever NHL goal for the Blues.:)

Is it Hoggan or Hogan? The roster has Hoggan but the online Blues scoreboard has Hogan. It's not like I can look at his jersey or anything because I have to use the radio:shrug:

10. I like listening to hockey on the radio
it makes me feel nostalgic for the old days, back in the '60s, listening to Howie Meeker on CBC-Radio. Right now, I'm listening to the Calgary Hitmen/Lethbridge Hurricanes game (minor hockey). Very exciting. Those young boys really know how to put on a good show.

But anyways, GO FLAMES GO! <heee>

15. Yeah, too bad I wasn't around for the nostalgic good-old days!
My übermaterialistic generation wants 60' plasma TVs, dammit!

I think I made friends with the Flames when they knocked Detroit out of the playoffs a couple of years ago. Too bad they couldn't do the same with the Great Satan Infidels from Flor-i-duh.;)

20. Watching HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA for the first time ever tonight
I feel warm and reassured. Knowing that it's finally back almost brought tears to my eyes, because I know that HNIC, for many Canadians, is not just a sportscast - it's a way of life.

21. Yeah...60+ years of tradition
And you're right, it is a way of life. From the opening strains of the theme music through to the last word of the 2nd game from the west....
As a kid, watching it in my room on our old black & white tv, falling asleep around the 3rd period...just one of those things.

22. I feel the same way about watching Stars games here in Dallas
And yes, I often fall asleep during the third, too. Don't mean to; I guess I just get really relaxed and comfortable. After all, it's hockey.

We're getting a sneak peak at NHL Center Ice this week; if we want to keep watching HNIC, we'll have to buy the package from our cable provider. Might not be able to swing it, but at least I can say I got to see what the 60+ years of fuss was about.
