Why was Rasputin murdered?
I watched this special last night on Discovery, and I'm still not clear.

They posed so many possibilities -- one being that the British did it.

What do you guys think?

1. I always thought it was the aristocrats and military who resented
his influence on Alexandra, and therefore on Nicholas - just because he was able to help the son with hemophilia in some way - pain relief or bleeding stoppage?

2. From what I heard, the nobles around the czar didn't like him...
because he was making the monarchy look like a bizarre freak show at a time when the monarchy could not afford to look any worse. Thus they wanted him dead so the czar and czarina would not look crazy and have more support within Russian society.

3. Because he had undue influence over the tsarina
and through her, the tsar. And he was a crazy mofo.

I didn't watch the show-I read Nicholas And Alexandra by Robert K. Massie about a hundred times. I keep hoping it will end differently.

8. LOL!
Good one.

He's an interesting character. I've always thought somebody should write a play or operatta about him.

But yeah, I agree with the others. There's also the added gossip in some circles that his time with the tzarina wasn't exactly "wholesome"

9. Besides RASPUTIN Being Creepy, Because He Was Pulling
for getting the Ruskies out of the war? I fell asleep for the last ten minutes.

You'da thunk that TWO dudes writing AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL confessions would have been enough without the Brit secret service, but then the poison, the shootings, the throwing-in-the-icy-river didn't seem to be working.

One of my favorite books is "Rasputin The Holy Devil" by FULOP-MILLER.

The dude was the original swinging hippie--altered states of mind, religious ceremonies that ended up in orgies, sex-across-social-castes.

The news last night was that he had bodyguards like O'LOOFAH.

10. "Russians Continuing To Kill Rasputin"
A headline from Our Dumb Century (by The Onion). This page from the page a day calendar has been on my bulletin board at work for several years. Most people don't understand, but the few who do really enjoy it. "Hirsute Mystic to Reach Demise No Later Than 1925, Say Gunmen".
