I'm just curious about all of this. I mean it sounds scary but is it really scary or just an attempt to frighten me and put the country in a state of panic for flu vaccines (which happen to be manufactured by Pharmaceutical companies that tend do donate republican and make a shitload of money off the panic)

Please advise

5. 9 years ago it was Ebola
My educated guess is that this is fear-mongering.

Even if bird flu turns into real threat and kills 150 million people, as has been advertised in some places, your chance of being killed would be less than 2%.

I think the risk of a serious communicable disease is always with us, but we there are many different factors today than there were in 1919. One is that we do not have a large reservoir of mobile people living in closely confined quarters, ie. ships and military camps as we did just after World War I. Secondly we have better drugs including antibiotics that can be used in cases of secondary infection. Third we do not have - in the West anyway YET - a large population of people who are immune comprimised through malnutrition and exposure as was the case with many people suffering through what was - up until that time - the worst war in history.

I think the flu risk is real but not exigent. The virus exists and we know that it is possible for viruses of this type to mutate into a virulent disease infecting humans. On the other hand, it is not a certainty that it will do so. That being said, as is typical now, the risk is being inflated by the fear mongers in Washington DC in order to divert attention from their looting and pillaging.

In fact, despite what you hear otherwise, the risk of being a victim of terrorism - for which we have simply crossed out huge sections of our constitution with inappropriate paranoia - is almost vanishingly small. More people are killed by far from smoking every year than are killed by terrorism, although from the focus of our government and sadly, an appreciable fraction of our population, you would think otherwise.
