DU is too white!
Don't get the wrong idea now.

I think the white background is way too bright and hard on the eyes. Those of you who spend a lot of time in front of a monitor know what's up. How about a black background or a democratic blue? We'll steer clear of commie red, haha!

That's REALLY annoying.

A light gray, perhaps, but absolutely nothing with colors, and definitely no text color other than black.

Unless we were to go to a black background with white lettering, but black on white or gray is much better than white on black.

11. Wacky background colors are murder for those of us with
"eye issues"..

White is a bit stark, but it's way better than the dark backgrounds with light text.. Those are killers on my eyes:(

My default Windows background is a light mint green (red: 192, green: 222, blue: 192). It's very easy on the eyes.

18. mind reader, i was thinking this an hour ago.
after i had posted that spike lee's bamboozled was the best "black conmedy" (not african american comedy).

one reply to the post and i thought how most of my black friends wouldn't even consider what most of the posts on that thread considered to be black and stark comedy.

it made me wonder if this site is whiter than the republican party.

I say we either have a white background and white text, or a black background and black text.

The colors should match! Do you know how disturbing it is when the text and background aren't the same color? Hmm...or maybe it's just me :)

22. Those of us who are older need all the contrast we can get --
when I was younger, I'd just turn down the brightness on my monitor if I found it too bright (nowadays those controls are usually in software)...

Besides which, a white background is the standard -- used on most other websites. Any alternative will be unpalatable to some segment of the DU audience...

But Cyan (light blue) with black text would probably work ok. But I don't want any of this yellow on red eyesore bullshit.
