Poll question: Isn't Brian Eno incredible?
Just checking the progressive music meter of the DU. Be honest! I really want to know.

3. Well, admittedly ...
'Seven Deadly Finns' isn't much -- but I'm guessing you're talking about another 'hit' -- 'Finns' wasn't bland, it was just awful!

2. Wonderful
One of my high school friends (in the late 70s) embroidered on her jeans "There is only ONE ENO". I have been enjoying his music and thought for many years now.

4. The synthesizer solo in "Editions Of You" is among my favorites.
I would have been geeked if he was in that Roxy Music reunion tour two years ago.

5. He was great before he abandoned the song form and started hanging

musical wallpaper everywhere. "Baby's on Fire?" Fucking great song. "St. Elmo's Fire?" Best use of Robert Fripp on a sound recording ever, in my opinion. "King's Lead hat," "Needle in the Camel's Eye," etc. Just tons of wonderful, idiosyncratic songs and ideas...

So why did such a creative dude turn his back on the songwriting/performing rock process and instead submerge his talents in new age earthfarting googoo mist? Beats me. I hate that "ambient" shit. 20 bucks for a CD where nothing happens? Sorry, I'll save my money for that new New Bomb Turks disc.

"Music for Airports?" How about music for PEOPLE, Brian? Airports don't have ears.

7. eno
what a musical genius. he doesn't even know how to read music. but think about his influence:

roxy music
talking heads
bowie
james
u-2

and if you are into ambient, "the pearl" and "plateux of mirror" are classics.
