DU parents, if your child needed a kidney, and you were a match,
would you give it to them?

The reason I ask, is Cojo (ET) is getting his 2nd kidney transplant and the donor is his mom. The first one came from a friend, but it was rejected. I find it strange. If I had a child, and they were sick, I would move heaven and earth to make them better - they wouldn't need to rely on a friend.

1. Absolutely I would

Does it matter if blood type is different? (don't know much about transplants...)

on edit:
Found this re: blood type

BLOOD TYPE MATCHING
Scientists have known for many years that blood group matching is important in transfusion and it is equally important in kidney transplantation. The basic donation pathways in kidney transplantation are very similar to those used in blood transfusions.

So, I wouldn't be able to donate a kidney to my son, but I would want to!
(Am AB-, and he's A+)

3. I definitely would! But...I think with Cojo, given the age of his mother
the risks were higher, and the friend came forward and he opted for that instead of putting his mother through hell.

I hope it goes well for him. I really enjoy him. :hi:

4. If my niece or nephew or any one I was close to needed one
then I would.

5. Mom may not have been healthy enough to donate the first time
around. Or the mom was needed healthy for the child's sake, so the friend donated.
Hard to know unless your privy to their rationale.

6. I would, if I could
Unfortunately, I will never be able to donate any organs to anyone...(former lymphoma patient - I can't even give blood).

7. But to have you around, your spirit
would be a real boon! You have great positive spirit!

11. Thanks!
Sometimes I feel downright cynical, so to hear that others think I am a positive spirit helps immensely!

8. Owh, that sucks KW :(
Are you okay on day-to-day stuff? I've heard of that but how does it affect you now? (I hope that isn't too personal to ask)

I would definitely donate to my child or any other family member I had if they were in need and I could help and was a match. I would have a hard time saying no, I think...even if I wanted to.

10. I am over 18 years since treatment
I have some long term effects, and sooner or later I will need to have two of my heart valves transplanted. But every day above ground is a good one.

15. Unfortunately, that picture is about 15 years old.
They are still adorable, however almost grown and gone now.
