Any smart DU'er know anything about Fresnel Lenses?

Thinking about getting one for magnifying the monitor screen on my sim pit.

Anybody know how to figure out how far to palce it in front of the monitor?

1. Depends on the type of light you want.

Fresnels have a VERY soft focus; they're not much good for spot-work. For tight, precise, focussed light, use Colortrans. I'm sure that doesn't help, but at least I got to show off my knowledge of Fresnels. B-)

According to some other folks I communicate with, if you place a Fresnel Lens in front of a monitor it expands the viewing area greatly, making the display focus infinite.

"The Fresnel lens does not only enlarge your 15", 17" or 19" monitor to a maximum of 30" (76 cm.), 38" (96 cm.) or even 41" (104 cm.). It gives you a more realistic infinite view and has the effect of a so-called collimated display."
