Daniel Craig Unveiled As New James Bond
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 07:21 AM by Fighting Irish
Daniel Craig was introduced Friday as the first blond James Bond and only the second Englishman to star as Agent 007 in the movie series.

(snip)

Craig, 37, is the first blond actor to play agent 007. Relatively unknown outside Britain, he has had a busy career that includes roles in the landmark 1990s British TV drama "Our Friends in the North" and films including "The Mother," "Enduring Love" and "Layer Cake."

He played Paul Newman's sinister son in "Road to Perdition," was poet Ted Hughes opposite Gwyneth Paltrow's Sylvia Plath in "Sylvia" and appeared in this year's thriller "The Jacket" with Adrien Brody.

Craig is also the tabloids' dream Bond. He once dated headline-grabbing model Kate Moss and has been linked to Sienna Miller, his "Layer Cake" co-star and on-off fiancee of Jude Law.

1. I wonder if he'll use hair dye or wear a wig...
Not that I care; just so long they make the movies closer to Fleming's book style (ala "For Your Eyes Only" and the two Dalton films)...

15. He had very dark hair in the movie "Sylvia"
But so did Ted Hughes. Hard to imagine a blond Bond.

I was hoping for Clive Owen, but he turned down the part. Craig is a good actor, though. Could be interesting.

2. Whelp, I'm done with James Bond movies
I'll be the first to admit that I have never ever seen an entire James Bond movie before Pierce Brosnan was Bond. Brosnan had an appeal that brought new people into the Bond Series like myself because Brosnan has a sex appeal that personally I feel that no other Bond has ever had

So go ahead and replace Pierce because I'm willing to pay $10 to see him in a movie but not for this new guy!

3. Sean Connery WAS James Bond
Brosnan was good, though. Timothy Dalton was boring, and Roger Moore was often ridiculous. George Lazenby did one movie, and he just didn't seem right for it.

I was hoping for Clive Owen. He would have been very good.

I'm with you there.

This was a very unexciting choice.

11. Exactly...She had gained quite a bit of weight with the last baby and
he still looks at her with so much adoration. I love men that love women for their real beauty. :hi:

14. I don't know if you have seen her lately. She was on a British talk
show speaking about her troubles with weight gain. She is what I would guess (because I was there after James was born) about a size 20-22. She looks terrific still.

My point was that beauty truly comes from the inside. She is a gorgeous woman.

28. Yeah, first I found the November one, and then the February one after
I realized I had to edit it.

I get your point. In a society and especially an industry in which thinness is such an obsession, it is beautiful that he adores her for herself :loveya:

29. Size? What size? That isn't size; those are CURVES.
Women are supposed to have them. I love women with curves. Gives you something to hold onto. I don't like stick-women. They're so flat, you'd slide right off them. What fun is that?

She is drop-dead gorgeous. The "drop dead" is for anyone who thinks she is a "person of size".

B-)

Should be interesting, though.

Check the new guy out in Layer Cake.

16. He is a good actor, but that's not necessarily what Bond films need
Dalton was a good actor too, but realism isn't what's needed when surrounded with fantastic gadgets and contrived plotlines. I thought he was very good in 'Archangel', in which he played a professor caught up in an investigation into Stalin's private life, but it was a 'gritty' thriller rather than a 'flashy' one.

23. Bond has perpertually been in his
late thirties to early forties. Except for Roger Moore, who looked like he was in his sixties in the last few films he did.

Dalton was the best post-Connery Bond IMO. Certainly the most believable and complex.

24. Yeah. But late 30s/early 40s used to seem so much older!
I just had this conversation with my mom recently - "old age" seems to get older and older!

21. and this article doesn't even mention that he was in...
Tomb Raider? - ok, not a great movie, but the only movie I (and probably lots of other Americans) have seen him in.

There's an article on this at BBC:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4337224.stm

Talks about Craig and about changes the filmmakers want to make to the Bond series...more realistic and gritty, no gadgets (and no Q)...

I've never read the books, but I've seen all the movies (including the Casino Royale with Niven and Sellers) - and I'm not sure I like the direction they're planning to take. Bond without gadgets? Without Q?

I don't know about that...
