As a straight guy I gotta say this out loud
I don;t like women who have the curves of a flagpole  I'm talking about the ones wh look like someone you'd see in a cartoon, these so called "models" whose bones are showing and shit. The hell with that, give me a WOMAN, like Kate Winslet--how could anyone not like HER body/ Geez!

At the same time, I know not everyone is going to have that type of jiggle, but I do draw the line if you look like you'll be blown off your feet by the slightest breeze

2. I asked this before (sincerely) and got no answers...
What is it about very thin young women (who look very much like prepubescient boys) that thrills so many heterosexual men? The Hilton sisters, Calista FLockhart, Ann Coulter come to mind. Anyone? I really am curious, especially given Harrison Ford's current relationship with Flockhart.

12. Oh, I think women are prone to go for their "bad" boys too..
and certainly "skank" is not confined to one gender... Speaking only for myself, though, physical attraction goes immediately right out the door if a guy were to express Tom Delay (or Ann Coulter) type views. Beauty is on the surface, but stupid goes to the core....

19. Heard a cool song by Zoogs Rift back in the '70's about this-

to a life of exploitation in those books and magazines"

It makes me mad when people called her fat after Titanic came out. During that time, her body type was perfection. And even today, I know a lot of guys who find her drop dead gorgeous. I actually prefer her curvier...but she had to find work, and she had to lose a bit.

13. *I* like thin women!
Edited on Sun Nov-16-03 09:16 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Not anorexic thin, but Hilton sisters thin is good! Kate Moss - too much thin (at leasst, when she was modeling). I also can totally appreciate Kate Winslet's shape.

Only shape I don't find myself attracted to is a fair amount of extra overweight. But for models for painting, the meatier ones are way beter! Much more interesting curves, shadowing, and presence.

Boy, this is a tough subject to talk about without sounding shallow, judgmental, or like a horrible person.

I like all people (no, let me clarify - I like all people until they open their mouth, and then I make judgment)! It's just a matter of what we are attracted to, and whatever we're attracted to, that's okay. That's how we're wired.

17. T but no A

If breasts had feet, the American male would be just as happy. Look at any female star today, and it's like looking into a concentration camp. Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, anybody in a Victoria Secrets catalogue: the message is, nearly invisible women are the best kind.

22. Three cheers for you guys! Although it would appear
women like me are still a little too big to appeal to most of the men on this thread (what a surprise, *sigh*), it's still nice to hear a few male voices who are turned off by the sick, unhealthily thin body type that is exalted in the fashion and movie industries.

I've often thought the poster girl for the cause should be Debra Messing. She's an incredibly beautiful woman, but that poor thing needs to eat something. I don't know why they insist on dressing her in extreme decolletage; it seems to me the only point in that is if you have a little breast, and all she has is breastbone.

Who knows, maybe one day the worsening Bush economy will have us all starving, and then ultravoluptuous figures like mine will once again be regarded as the epitome of feminine beauty like they were 25,000 years ago.

How I'll pity the skinny chicks when they're bombarded with a constant stream of infomercials and advertisements for weight gain products; when they can't stop hearing about the latest fad diet from the midwest that can help you gain 20 pounds in two weeks; when they see nothing but boobs, bellies, hips, and butts when they turn on TV or open a magazine; when they walk down the street and men say things to their buddies like "hey, how'd you like to ride that willow stick?" and laugh; when they come to DU and see the occasional post like "What's up with (insert name of thin reporter here)? She's so skinny she disgusts me and she should get her scrawny ass off the air!" In short, when every day brings them a thousand reminders that something's terribly wrong with them and they're completely repulsive to a majority of the planet.

23. there are men who think you are wonderful just the way you are
but I know what you mean. As someone who has stuggled with my weight since I was first pregnant, I get sick of the cracks about women's weight.

I have to say, as a straight woman that there is something a little weird about men who obsess about their weight (don't get me wrong, I think we should all strive to be reasonably healthy)and work at staying where they were in high school.
If you are working out your body 24/7 you are probably allowing other areas of your life to be neglected.
Give me a man with a few extra lbs, who puts family, friends and community before his vanity.

41. Thanks, Cheswick, although that's not so much
of a concern to me (I'm married to a man who loves that I'm big and I have a few male acquaintances who've let me know they find me attractive). What bothers me is the constant emphasis in America not just on thin but on unhealthily thin, and the accompanying message that being unthin (whether one is plump, fat, or whatever) is unattractive, undesirable, and something that you need to work really hard on changing if you want to be treated decently.

Obviously a lot of men are going to prefer slim figures over fuller ones, and that's perfectly fine. I don't have a problem with that at all. What I do have a problem with is the man who then feels that it's okay to laugh at the fat girl. Even DU has a few folks like that (though not many, and other posters generally try to politely point out to them why they might want to be a little more circumspect); or the type who can't just tell you that they find only thin women sexy (which, again, is perfectly fine) but who then feel impelled to make it perfectly clear just how repulsed they are by heavier forms.

In addition to the effect all this has on the psyche of the heavy person, it also tends to dampen the lives of people who admire larger figures and have discovered that openly admitting to their preference or showing it by the type of partner they date subjects them to mockery and ridicule. I'm proud to say that my husband is decidely not a member of this group, but some of the other men I spoke of, are.

33. I'm a little sensitive about this subject
I'm having a difficult time keeping my weight up and don't feel very womanly. I thought I had settled in at 105 and then weighed myself today and I'm 100 lbs. I think I'm too thin for me, I should be about 110 at least. I've also been in a position where I wanted to lose weight so I think I understand both problems. Just remember if you see someone you think is too thin, it might be a condition that isn't their choice. Sometimes life problems can cause a lack of appetite and you can lose weight even though you don't want to.

Of course, people are attracted to different body types. But I'm not going to criticize men who don't fit my preferences.

35. Yep, same here
I have trouble maintaining 110. If I don't watch my eating, I drop weight in no time. I have the metabolism of a gerbil coupled with a very small appetite. I can and have gone 2-3 days without eating in the past, but I don't let that happen now.

36. yes
I was going a couple of days without eating but am not doing that now. I'm really trying to eat enough to maintain my weight. I usually love to eat and cook but I'm just going through a time when I don't feel like eating. I started exercising again recently and that has made my metabolism speed up, I think. I'm not going to give up the exercising because it has such good psychological effects. Funny how I've always felt too fat or too thin, I do think that women can get some very messed up ideas about their bodies. I think everyone would be better off with a more accepting attitude toward their bodies. We're not supposed to look like movie stars or models and that shouldn't be the standard we seek.

Yes, all women can be beautiful and ALL body types, but as a woman who has been known to be neurotic about her figure because I wasn't the super thin type, but rather the hourglass type (or perhaps hour and 15 minutes glass type). I am ever so happy for the males out there who give us an ego stroke.

And she's looking good in her new video. Skip said to me yesterday, "I saw her new video, "Trouble," yesterday. She's gained a little bit of weight. She's looking good." I love it that you guys like girls with a little padding. I know some big girls that are prettier than the skinny as hell ones that most guys drool after. And that's why i think the divorce rate in this country is so high. Everyone's so stuck on looks that they forget about the soul. And when they get married, there's no connection mentally, and the wonder why the marriage doesn't work. WELL DUH!
