Help! I am overrun with a housefly infestation-any tips?
I made the mistake this fall of leaving the door open so my dogs could come and go as they please. I now have a massive infestation of fly's.
Are there any tips to getting them? I have tried those pest strips and have caught a lot of the suckers but I am not winning the war. Any suggestions? Any way to kill them in a natural way without chemical spray?

1. Keep those doors closed
the average housefly only lives for 3 days. If you can keep new ones from getting in, the current crop will die off shortly. Just dont leave any food out uncovered.

2. There is a trap you can buy that is
natural.

It's a plastic cup with a trap on top, the flys fly in but cannot get out. YOu bait it with a piece of fruit or lunchmeat.

I found a link, this thing is slightly different.

Are you sure that it's just your dogs attracting the flies? You may have something dead in your roof or walls.... that usually attracts a large amount of flies.

When I clean up one room, they migrate to another. Pretty soon they're back.

9. Bwaha ha!!
Usually I don't kill bugs - if they really bother me I take 'em outside. But the last week or so, I have been on a serious fly-swatting kick. There are a few at my work driving me fucking crazy, and a couple at home too. Once in a while I even get them :)

7. I got these ribbon traps once that worked.
They have this gooey amber colored bait on them. You just hang them in places the flies like to congregate, and they land on it and get stuck.

8. Get rid of the bodies under your crawlspace.
It'll cut the fly count in half.

12. Fill up a baggy with water
seal it up tightly and nail or pin it to the the outside of your door frame (of course, nail it in an upper corner of the baggy so the water won't leakout). This won't get rid of the flies you already have inside, but it will cut down on the number hanging around. They think the baggy is a hornet's nest or something and will stay away from it.
