5. Interesting. 39 years (and 1 day ago) an earthquake hit Lima, Peru
I know because it was the headline the next day (which is the same day that I was born ;) )

11. I was driving the underneath of the Nimitz Fwy. the day before that
and thinking...Sure would hate to have an earthquake right now!

As it was, had already stayed an extra day in the SF area and almost stayed an extra day. If I had done that, would have been driving that same route back to Reno at the time the EQ hit.

Gave me the shivers then...and still does...

13. 3 yrs after the quake and 13 yrs ago today, my hubby proposed
so today is a VERY special day for me, indeed. :loveya:

At some point during the incredibly elaborate and creative proposal he said something really cheesy like, "Three years aog, the earth moved and now it's moving again!"

Corny, but I loved it. It was the most romantic day of my life.

And, isn't it nice how Oct. 17 sometimes coincides with Sweetest Day?

6. Today is the anniversary of the '89 Loma Prieta quake
Here in the Bay Area. So it's odd that one of the first threads I saw was one about earthquakes.

I didn't live in California at the time - since I came out 6 1/2 years ago, I've only felt minor quakes. I can do without a big one - the small ones are kind of neat but I don't like the idea of people getting hurt and property damaged. That's a "thrill" I can do without.

I'd love to visit Costa Rica - I understand it's very beautiful.
