Any Jack Johnson fans out there? Who wants to sit under the mango tree
with me? Man, I really love this guy - every song I hear by him is better than the last.

Going out to all of you wacky and wonderful individuals who make the Lounge feel like home to me these days...

"Better Together"
(Jack Johnson)

There's no combination of words
I could put on the back of a postcard
No song I could sing
But I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs
With sepiatone loving
Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? and where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing its always better when we're together

MMM its always better when we're together
Yeah, look at the stars when we're together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that theyll be gone
When the morning light sings
And brings new things
For tomorrow night you see
That theyll be gone too
Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I'd be under the impression
I was somewhere in between
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be
We'll Sit beneath the mango tree now

Its always better when we're together
Mmmm, we're somewhere in between together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

MMmmmm MMMmmmm Mmmmmm
I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no song I could sing
And there is no, combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're Better together.

1. Sitting under the mango tree
That sounds deliciously pleasant. And those lyrics alone put me there. I'll check that out. Thanks.

3. Yay!
I thought I might be all by my lonesome under that mango tree tonight. That would have been ok - I like that spot. But it's much nicer with a little company!

:pals:

I don't know what your musical tastes are, but I hope you enjoy Jack Johnson! He just has this addictive sound to me.

10. Ditto
the irritating me no end part.

No redeeming songs on my end though. I don't remember being this bored by a musical artist since....hmmm...

gotta go with anything by Natalie Merchant.

26. That's exactly who popped into my head upon reading the title...
Jack Johnson, the boxer worthy of being paid tribute to by Miles Davis....

22. Jack Johnson is one of my personal heros.......
but not the one you all are referring to. The Jack Johnson I admire was a prizefighter and eventual world heavyweight champ who was born in the late nineteenth century. His story on PBS captivated me even though I am not a fan of the sport. He used his physical abilities to create a lifestyle he could enjoy in life, something which black men back then could barely dream of. He did well fighting against those who despised him for being who he was, namely black, popular, an extraordinary athlete and eventually quite wealthy. This combination caused those racists who dominated in the sports-world back then to wage open war on Jack Johnson. Jack Johnson knew that he could never be beat, not in the ring, this is for certain. Eventually white folks did get to him though, outside of the ring in the federal courts, for his love of women.....white women that is. This particular Jack Johnson is a good story to hear, it is an excellent look into the minds and hearts of folks here in America a century ago. I recommend catching the 2 part show on PBS if ever you get the chance. Tape it if you can. Here is a link to a bio on this Jack Johnson, it is just a summary, the PBS one is much better.:

24. Unforgivable Blackness
Powerful documentary on the life and death of Jack Johnson. What an incredible human Jackson was. I'm glad you brought him up here. His story is very, very important, IMHO.

25. There he is!!!!
I am not sure if that is the same thing I saw on PBS a few months ago or not, but I fully intend to look further into that link you provided. I still wonder why he never made that list of "Top 100 Americans" show which aired last spring on the History Channel. Was this a symptom of general ignorance or of racism or both? I had only recently learned of this man, this important figure in Americana! My ignorance, was it due to that racism that I was not taught about him in my history classes back in high school? How many others like him have I missed out on? Jack Johnson is an American Hero, just as much as Betsy Ross, Audi Murphy (sp?), John Wayne or Michael Jordan! (I believe they made that list). Thanks for the link.
