Wilma is now a Category 5 Hurricane
Oh boy, here we go again

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051019/ts_nm/weather_wilma_dc
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hurricane Wilma, which triggered mudslides that killed up to 10 people in Haiti, has strengthened to a catastrophic Category 5 storm as it approaches western Cuba and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

The season's record-tying 21st storm, fueled by the warm waters of the northwest Caribbean Sea, strengthened alarmingly as it headed into the Gulf of Mexico on a path expected to lead across storm-weary southern Florida by Saturday.

9. I don't think there is much chance that Wilma
will stay away from Florida. I just hope it stays away from the Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale area. My daughter and sister both live there.

18. This turn it's projected to make is so strange.
At least Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale are on the east coast. I was on the east coast when Charley came across us and we were definitely spared the brunt of it.

4. Wow! Here's what the weather channel is saying...
"Hurricane Hunters early this morning recorded a pressure of 884 mb, now the lowest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin. This represents more than a 86 mb drop in just 12 hours! This appears to be one of the fastest pressure drops on record."

Jesus.

23. My uncle didn't either
until one hurricane (years ago) sucked his brand new car out to sea. He still had to make payments as "being swept out to sea by God" was not covered in his insurance. He moved to a more northern part of the state after that.

14. Be careful!
After everything that's gone on in the past two hurricane seasons I'm inclined to bug out early and avoid traffic. Even if it means looking like a fool if the track turns and I wasn't in the direct path after all.

Good luck!

HEAD NORTH . . .

do this before they even declare an official evacuation.

it's no fun being stuck on roads for HOURS at a time.

12. I have reservations at Disney World for the Epcot International...
Food & Wine Festival this weekend. If that hurricane ruins my wine-sodden trek around the world I am going to kick some Wilma ass!

How's that for selfish?

Actually, I'm truly concerned for Cuba and South Florida. I'm on the northern edge of the projected path and the opposite coast so it's unlikely we'd suffer any serious damage.

This is insane!

I think Alpha's coming to.
Isn't Alpha the next storm name? I don't think we have anything for x,y or z.
I'll have to look it up.

31. Q, X,Y,Z are not used for hurricane names
There aren't enough names for them especially knowing that major storm names get retired (Ie - there will never be another Katrina or Rita since they were both massive storms)

34. That's what I thought.
The names being retired have to be approved by the committee. I read that they are retired for a minimum of ten years(for insurance reasons and for morale) but can be reused after, but never are. It's supposed to help clear up confusion over claims. Usually, for a name to be dropped it had to cause extensive damage and many times loss of life. (I read up on the subject once because I wanted to know how to send in my name. Turns out they prefer short, easy to pronounce names and that my name would probably be disqualified).
Katrina,Rita, Andrew, Camille-names we will never hear again except as curses. And that is the way it should be.

24. One of it's projected paths puts it at my front door.
Today I'll stock up on dog food, double check my gas supply for the generator, probably get another couple super long outdoor extension cords...you know, before total chaos ensues.

Almost forgot...ice, beer.

There, that'll do it.
