Poll question: Have you ever heard of Drapes costing over a thousand dollars?
I know this is a setup for a Brazillion copycats, but I'm asking because I've been informed that the drapes in my house cost this absurd amount of money. To me, they look like some average mesh hanging under some patterned white stitched whiteness :shrug:

There's a total of three windows with those ( what I'll call ) negatively-arched curtain rail overthrows, and the rest are just some fitted thick things that have the texture of a tablecloth.

2. I think it IS possible, but you need to ask some hard questions
if this is related to the fire and insurance.

Are they custom made? My mom had custom made curtains in our house in CT back in the mid 70s, and I know that is a long time ago, but I also know my frugal dad would never have paid thousands for drapes. I think for three rooms, including one bow window it was under $500.

What is the material? If it is your run of the mill cotton, linen, no way. If it is a very rare silk, maybe.

If not custom made, who is the manufacturer? Some manufacturer's are way more expensive than others, but I can't quite envision it getting that expensive.

Gee, I really can't tell. I have drapes similar to the bottom
pic in my dining room that I got at JCPenney for $59. I would definitely ask to see some receipts and see where they are from. The top pic, no way. Very ordinary, target looking. To me, anyway, and I am kind of a drapery freak. I like to change them a lot based on seasons, etc.

I have a friend who makes custom drapes and curtains and her stuff is very nice, pretty on par with what you have posted, but nowhere near as expensive.

.... are very expensive. I've paid over twice that to cover one large window.

Labor to make them is expensive, and the materials for nice drapes costs a lot and it takes a ream of fabric.

As a guy, trust me, I had major sticker shock too :) I'd just as soon spend that kind of cash on something useful, like a big screen TV :)

How lame. I bought curtains for 40 bucks, and was totally happy with them. Of course, they were black :evilgrin: but during the day it was like having a wall-sized starfield - way cool

My mom took over the business. I have seen people drop 20K on them. Keep in mind that was really expensive fabric and most the sewing was done by hand.

26. Most drapery doesn't cost that much or even close to it, - however
the costs of drapery, like just about everything else, depends.

If the fabric is real silk (which seems abysmally stupid in a rental), if it's custom made to match the entire household, if the windows are unusually sized and require specially fitted hardware, then yes, the total set up for a draped window could conceivably run to a grand.

Conceivable is different than likely. I'd never fork out that kind of money for drapery without some sort of receipts to prove the costs. If all else as it should be, one could easily replace the hardware and drapery on a single window for under a hundred bucks, and do it nicely.
