A brave and loyal associate full of optimism, you remain true to your friends and their efforts, to whatever end.

But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.

SCHWEEEET!

Yoda

A venerated sage with vast power and knowledge, you gently guide forces around you while serving as a champion of the light.

Judge me by my size, do you? And well you should not - for my ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life greets it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us, and binds us. Luminescent beings are we, not this crude matter! You must feel the Force around you, everywhere.

Yoda is a is a character in the Star Wars universe. More Yoda information is available at the Star Wars Databank.

Interestingly enough, my cat is named Yoda, too.

22. Me too, another Yoda.
It's funny, I wrote a letter to the Los Angeles Times a long, long time ago, and they titled it "Yoda Speaks" and whisked it away from the editorial page to the Calendar section (or whatever it was called back then.)

But my favorite thing about DU, and maybe the internet in general, is that I can write whatever crap I feel like. Yoda would never do that.

Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

31. from Star Trek 4
Spock: Captain, we must rescue Checkov
Kirk: Is that the logical thing to do?
Spock: No, it is the human thing to do.

In that case, they risked the entire planet earth in order to rescue one Starfleet Captain. In the 2nd movie, there is no sacrifice although Spock dies to save the Enterprise and crew. If he had not taken the radiation though, he would still have died along with the rest of the crew in the Genesis explosion. "Scotty, I need warp speed in 3 minutes, or we are ALL dead." To paraphrase Ben Affleck from Armageddon - "Everyone's gotta die someday, I am the one who gets to do it saving the ship." In Armageddon however, Harry does not have to make the sacrifice, he could have let AJ do it or Rockhound, but he followed the logical principle that the needs of the child outweight the needs of the parent.

18. Jean-Luc Picard here too

Jean-Luc Picard

An accomplished diplomat who can virtually do no wrong, you sometimes know it is best to rely on the council of others while holding the reins.

There are some words which I have known since I was a schoolboy. "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." These words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie -- as a wisdom, and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged.

from Nova, the novel by Samuel R. Delany. I've always loved that name Lorq von Ray and he's one of the great characters of science fiction literature. In fact, I would rank Nova among the top 50 science fiction novels ever written. It heavily influenced the cyberpunk movement that followed it, represented in William Gibson's novels.

Elrond was born in Arvernien. There he stayed until captured by the sons of Feanor in their attempt to recover the Silmaril. At the end of the first age it came time for Elrond to choose his race. He chose Elven-kind, and was bestowed upon him great wisdom and power of perception. Elrond dwelt in Lindon with Gil-Galad until he was sent to Eregion to help the defense against Sauron in SA 1695. Elrond fled at the fall of Eregion and founded Imladris (Rivendell). In TA 100, he married Celebrian, daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel. Elrond wore the ring Vilya, one of the 3 elven rings of power. He sailed over the sea with Gandalf and Frodo
