Chicago will DESTROY Houston in the World Series
Ugly fact of life, but true. The American League rules your mind.

Discuss.

3. Let it be so.
May the force be with the Sox.

I heard loud explosions the last time I was on Illinois Institute of Technology's main campus this summer across the Dan Ryan Expressway from Sox Park. I almost died thinking, "We're being shelled!" before I realized that it was the exploding scoreboard.

8. I remember one time, people thought the A's were gonna hammer
the hapless NL team, and then the Reds took it in 4 games. And who can forget the miracle Mets of '86? Probably not Bosox fans.

What is the score in my sports lifetime?
72 - AL
73 - AL
74 - AL
75 - NL
76 - NL
77 - AL
78 - AL
79 - NL
80 - NL
81 - NL
82 - NL
83 - AL
84 - AL
85 - AL
86 - NL
87 - AL
88 - NL
89 - AL
90 - NL
91 - AL
92 - AL
93 - AL
94 - none
95 - NL
96 - AL
97 - NL

There my almanac stops, and I cannot fill the last seven years in from memory. So through 1997 the AL has a slight edge of 14-11, the difference being the three Oakland victories of my early childhood. Not exactly total domination.

The Dodgers were being touted (by assholes like Bob Costas) as the "worst team to ever make the World Series." :eyes:

They put the A's away quite effectively.

9. Not so much the AL, but the Chicago pitching has been awesome...
I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'd bet on the Sox. Which is cool - I like seeing those old-line cities win championships; it gives sort of a connection to the history of the sport that I don't feel when the D'Backs win the Series or the Lightning skate the Cup...

Hating teams from "Red States" is silly but you're allowed to hate the Dallas Cowboys.

And maybe someday LA will have an NFL team of its own.

37. I do too. Through default.
I like NL baseball much better.

On the other hand, the Sox play much like a NL team, and it is the WS so at least 2 games will be played under NL rules anyway. And...I was born and raised a Southsider, though both of our sons were born on the Northside.

I guess the bottom line is....during the season, it's much more fun to go to Wrigley.

What would be sweet is if Konerko rocked a homer right to where shrub senior and babs are sitting in Minute Maid Park and into their laps, splattering their chili dogs, nachos, and cokes all over their faces, to be replayed as a highlight on "SportsCenter" hourly for several days.

But the Sox have more hitting than the 'stros. And the Sox' starting pitching has been absurd. Sox in six, at most, and a second curse lifted. Does this mean the Cubs win the WS next year?

Grew up rooting for the Washington Senators. But I also like to place the occasional wager, and I can't see the Chisox "destroying" the 'Stros. (And I wouldn't piss on the Rocket if he was on fire. I've despised him ever since he decided to take Steinbrenner's money. But, when it's time to place a bet, all that goes right out the window, and the sonuvabitch can still pitch.)

Seriously.

I'm not the biggest Astros fan...grew up near Dallas as a Rangers fan. But I'm pretty damn excited to finally have a World Series in Texas and I'll pretend to be an Astros fan since you're pretending to like the White Sox.

I believe last time it was a $50 donation to DU to get the user of the winner's choice a star. We can do that again or we can do something more entertainingly alcoholic. :)

Garner has more luck than ability? He should be NL Manager of the YEar for the way he handled the Astros. For criminy's sake, they were 15 games UNDER .500 at one point in the season. He has a roster full of no-name kids and grizzled old veterans, and he managed them to the World Series. Luck my ass, Garner can MANAGE!

56. nothing against you or your team, but he didn't manage much
when he was in Milwaukee or Detroit - had only 1 year over 500 - I will admit he didn't get much backing from the owner/general managers

Astros have an owner/general manager that at least got some good pitching to help him/Astros thru the bad times.

57. Milwaukee and Detroit are hardly model organizations.
He got shafted in both of those venues. I'm impressed by the way he handled his team this year. The Astros were NOT expected to contend for a playoff spot, considering the losses on offense over the off-season. Garner had to work with a lot of youngsters and integrate them into the larger picture. PLUS, the Astros were working with a new GM as well, Tim Purpura. I'd say that he did a bang-up job considering all of the factors working against him.

40. The 'Stros have a legit shot....
...at the whole enchilada. The bullpen is tough, the starters are gold, and they have just enough bats to pull it out. They showed the heart of a true champion after taking that Pujols haymaker to the noggin and getting back up again. Hell, they were joking about it on the plane out to St. Louis. Oswalt had the pilot make an announcement at 22,000 feet that if the players looked out the window they could still see Pujol's ball.

Andy and Roger have been on the Big Stage before. I think they can handle the pressure.

He got fat and lazy in Boston, so they didn't want to give him huge money. So, he leaves to Toronto, gets in shape and has two great years. Then he weasels out of Toronto and forces a trade to the Yankees. He's all about the jack.

The rest of the Astros are ok with me, but Clemens...bah!

70. Agree Completely
Don't want to be to Cocky though, you never know.

Having said that,

No team with a hill and a flagpole ON THE FRIGGIN FIELD, a 315 foot left-field wall, Roger Clemens, and the Bush parents making out on their jumbo-tron deserves a world series.

Just sayin'

}(

Go Sox!!!

73. First that 315 foot left-field wall is there for both teams to use.
Second we may not deserves a world series in your eyes and others for many reasons but not because of politics.

Does anyone have the pic of Pujol's homer with Babs and Herbie in the background? I can't find it.

i would have liked to have seen the Cards go. So i will have to take solace in the Astro's being squashed for their hubris and defiance of the mandate of heaven (which was that the Cards go.)
