1. If you have burner software
And insert a blank CD, you should get a pop-up asking you what you want to do.

2. You don't format a blank CD

You burn your material to it, then "finish" it.

3. Yup. CDs have their own format: JOLIET.
They can be read by any modern CD-ROM. If an older CD-ROM won't read the CD, there are readers you can install that will help.

4. I would like to know how you do this....
If I'm making a data CD it MUST be formatted before I can burn any data on to it.

Music CD's are formatted automaticly with my software when I burn.

5. Do you have data CD burning software?
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 11:08 PM by Mika
I'm using Toast for Mac which burns data or music CD's. You just select what kind of CD you're making - data or music. After that its a simple drag and drop system.

6. I use Toast Titanium for Mac also
A data CD can be a bit more complicated. You can use the Basic or Advanced tab at left to choose if you want to format it for Mac only, or Mac & PC. Also, if you want a bootable CD you have to choose Mac Volume. If you do that, it's generally proper to uncheck "Optimize on the Fly" in the subsequent preferences box. There are also options for copying a CD instead of drag and drop, and one or two more that I don't remember without looking.

7. I use Easy CD Creater...
I'm sure your software is formatting the CD, but it does it for you without your knowledge before it burns.

The version of easy CD Creator: You also select data or Music, but for data it prompts you for formatting. For music it just burns.

8. Okay - someone told me it is only the data disks that you need to format.
Not audio or visual.
