I'm on my way to good old Costco anyway, - I've got a new laundry detergent on my list.

using about half the reccomended amount per load. Just a little advice!

our water here is terrible but since i started using it i've cut way down on det. and the clothes, especially the black ones look a whole lot better, no residue from the det.

I never use as much as the instructions say. Not only do you not need that much for an ordinary load, but oversudsing can cause damage to the washer.

I use about half as much as the instructions say, or the commercials/advertising show the models using, for most household products. Toothpaste, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish soap, floor cleaner...

I figure it's in the manufacturer's financial interests to get you to consume as much of the product as possible, so if they can persuade you to use twice as much as you really need every time you use it, their profits double!

And I have never really noticed a difference in how well the product gets the job done when I use half of what they recommend.

man told me a long time ago to use half of the recommended amount of detergent for regular detergents and 1/4 for concentrated if you want your washer to last longer. He said that was more than enough to get clothes clean and the absolute worse thing for a wash machine is suds. He showed me the suds marks on the washer and said less cleans better, leaves less residue and keeps from wearing out the washer. I listened and the 20 year plus old washer is still going strong. He also suggested that baby socks be placed in a hosiery bag to wash. The repair was to remove a baby sock that went through and jammed up the washer. (Yes washers do eat socks) :rofl: Oh and he didn't charge for fixing it.

And it works out just fine. I buy Purex because it's the cheapest brand out there and I have no problem with the way it cleans, either.

I always buy liquid detergent rather than the powdered. The bottles they all use for liquid detergent have the same spout. There is a little hole opposite of the large spout to let the air in to make it more pourable. When it no longer comes out the large spout, I get a whole 'nother load outta the bottle by pouring it out the little airhole.

It's expensive, but it only takes two tablespoons a load so an $8 bottle lasts at least two months. I'm thinking about buying a big commercial container for $60, I figure that will last me several years and should be cheaper than using a less expensive laundry soap.

Usually it is Arm & Hammer or Purex, since they are the cheapest. I don't have a lot of laundry because I live alone.

They should have considered the impact on the environment when they did their ratings. Those "nice smelling" detergents contain dangerous chemicals ... you won't notice until you get sick.

No animal testing, smells great, cleans great, not too pricey.

The clothes come out of the laundry less stinky than they went in -- good enough for me, considering the price. :shrug:

Cleans great, no cheesy smell, and cheap as hell.

My clothes will be happy to hear this.

I would do anything for us to get a Costco.

soak for 10 to 30 minutes--much better results, can use less. Sometimes I add vinegar for smell removal--but don't use it with those soft bathroom rugs--changes the color!! (oops)
