Anybody ever have "helicobacter pylori"?
My gastroenterologist diagnosed me with this- it's a tenacious bacteria that lives in the stomache lining and can lead to ulcers- and now I'm on a course of 8 pills a day for 2 weeks- mainly antibiotics. Thank G-d I have insurance; the medicine cost about $300 for which i paid $30.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone out there ever had it. Apparantly its very common- I never would have known.

7. Barry Marshall
was on TV a few years back; I think it was something like "20/20." He was at the Unversity of Virginia Medical School at the time. The segment was all about the difficulty he faced persuading people that helicobacter pylori was behind so many ulcers.

3. the doctor said about 50% of the population have it
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 08:53 PM by npincus
further (I think he said this to frighten me into taking the medicine), he told me that there is a link between this bacteria and stomache cancer. Having it does not mean you will get stomache cancer, but the doctor said this bacteria was present in 100% of patients who DID have stomache cancer. Scarey shit.

So, I am taking the medicine even though it makes me feel sorta crappy.

Tell your friend to check it out.

5. Yeah, I had it
bloating, wind, the works. Had to take heavy antibiotics for two weeks. The good news is the symptoms go away eventually, but it could be a while.
