4. Given it's political message, I hope it's HUGE......
in terms of box-office success, etc.

George Clooney, I like you more all the time. :D

10. it kicked ass, I was so pumped up afterwards.
It made my stomach turn to hear that asshole McCarthy speak, and to see his face made me throw up a little in my mouth, but...

I told my husband, "I bet he got a private screening tonight in hell, that asshole, hope he 'enjoyed' it!"

5. Can you tell me why this rating- ?
Good Night, And Good Luck
1 hr. 30 min.
(PG), for mild thematic elements and brief language

"mild thematic elements"???

wtf is THAT? "shield your children from reality"?

:hide: - "hide your kids from this politicaly motivated movie!!"

8. I think this movie was rated PG b/c it's probably a bit complex
for most younger kids. I certainly wouldn't plan on taking my kids to it. My soon-to-be 12 yr old son might get it, but I assume he'd be majorly bored and not catch all the nuances of what was happening. I could be wrong, though.

But my soon-to-be 9 yr old daughter? Forget it. :)

11. I didn't even notice that. But I also can't see it as a G movie either.
it's a movie that needs talking about afterwards, no matter your age. I hope tons of parents take their kids, the parallels are staggering. no nudity, no major language that I remember, short of a few 'damns', but I don't notice cursing.

19. Did you see the movie? Suicide isn't exactly "G" subject matter.

24. yes, but (spoiler alert)
it was handled completely different from how most films would... no scene of the actual suicide, just the phone call and the reactions of the characters. Not a G topic for sure, but one that can be discussed with kids after the film, though preferrably before. Kids see WAY more death in a video game or action movie these days than in GNGL.

I say PG is a good rating, after giving this some more thought. you bring up a valid point.

7. Hey, fleabert! We just saw it last night, too!! Excellent movie.
Everybody in the theatre broke out into applause when it ended. It felt so topical for today's political environment.

Great acting. Great script. Great singing. I LOVED Dianne Reeves' voice!

All in all, I recommend this movie without hesitation. Go see it, you will NOT be disappointed.

My official two cents,
Shine

15. Clooney's interview on NPR last week...discussion re: casting
and why he used McCarthy on film instead of an actor to play him..

he said that McCarthy was so over the top that if an actor played him the general audience would not believe McCarthy was really like that; it would be seen as a "Liberal" actor's interpretation to make him look worse than he really was. Using real footage of McCarthy allows him to be seen for himself, not subject to any third party interpretations.

Brilliant stroke, I think.

Can't wait for it to get down here!

22. then don't fucking wait!
get thee to a theater woman! ;-) it's awesome on the big screen...

lots of smoking though, lots and lots and lots of smoking, or at least lots of lit cigarettes, I noticed after a bit that there was alot more holding of cigarettes than of actual smoking of them. I guess it keeps it relative to the time period.

just made me want to smoke! :-)

21. We were supposed to get it here, but got a f-ing Mormon movie instead
Central New Mexico: We were supposed to get "Good Night..." this week, but it appears theaters picked up "The Work and The Glory: American Zion" instead, which is an inspirational movie about religious polygamists Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

We'll probably get "Good Night..." next week, but I won't hold my breath. I'm sure we'll get some sort of touching drama about L. Ron Hubbard and his struggle to create the Church of Scientology.

26. Did the bottled water scene make it in?

Here's a still that was released by the studio showing this perfectly recreated 50s newsroom, and smack dab in the middle is a plastic bottled water! I suspect that it was out of view to the motion picture cameras, but that the still photographer screwed up and didn't airbrush it out. :)
