3. Turnips and rutabaga are excellent as companions to other veggies
Roast them with carrots, onion, and potatoes. Use them in a vegetable soup. Be careful with amounts because turnip in particular can be very assertive. Peel rutabaga before cooking. Turnips should be peeled before boiling but can be peeled after baking. My mother used to boil carrots and rutabaga and then mash them together. Rutabaga and potato mash is pretty good too.
Large kohlrabi can be treated the same way. Peel kohlrabi until you're beyond the fibrous layer. Young kolhrabi (tennis ball size) can be eaten raw. Peel it and julienne then dress like coleslaw. It has a very mild cabbage taste.
Cooked turnip or large kolrabi can be served with a cream sauce too.
