I got a KitchenAid stand mixer for a wedding gift!
I LOVE it!

I'm kneading some bread dough as we speak!

3. You got that right.
;)

Add a bread maker and you might as well start wearing stretchy clothes.

27. I have that.
It completely rules :)

So far, the best things I made in it have been cantaloupe sorbet, it tasted perfectly fresh and delicate, and chai ice cream. Mmmmmmmm..... Also did a fun spicy cucumber granita as a starter for a summer dinner party.

It is a really fun appliance, one of my favorites.

7. Agreed.
It kneads up some shiny dough I would never have the patience to knead.

17. BEER DOUGH!!!!
Edited on Sun Oct-23-05 08:11 PM by A HERETIC I AM
You'll love your mixer the more you use it.

Make bread with beer.
Replace the appropriate amount of liquid called for in a bread recipe with your favorite beer (Let the beer go flat by pouring it into a bowl and let sit for a few hours or overnight) for a really flavorful bread.

6. My wife "can't live without it"
She does a lot of baking with it and even uses it to mix ground beef and spices, etc. for amazing hamburger patties.

You'll definitely be glad you have it.

Congrats on the recent nuptials, by the way!

10. Wow, somebody likes you....
The triplets' father (who is executive chef at a Chicago restaurant) has one. It was his addition to the wedding registry list and a good friend with money (and his best man) bought it for him. He uses it often, my niece here and there (mostly to make cookies for the tots).

Have a good time with it. Mmmmmm...homemade bread.....

11. My family had the 50s version while I was growing up
It was well used, including the meat grinder. It did not have a dough kneader-the technology probably wasn't there to incorporate such a heavy job into a home unit.
It's cool though! It ought to last forever.

13. Does it have the lawnmower engine?
I asked for a high power one that can plow through dough for eight dozen cookies or break up frozen butter without breaking a sweat.

14. Why do you think I got married?
My parents' standard wedding gift to their children is a KitchenAid stand mixer and a Cuisinart food processor.

I HAD to get my hands on that mixer! And my husband is glad I did. ;)

16. That was one of our wedding gifts
We haven't used it yet because the circuitry in the kitchen is so bad (if you have the oven and the microwave going at the same time, one or both will suddenly just stop, no blown fuses or flipped breakers) we want an electrician to check out the situation first. But we're getting all the fun attachments: the sausage stuffer, slicer, ice cream maker.

But couldn't justify the expense. Decided to put it on the list of things we might like, and someone actually bought it for us.
