We have very large huge blizzards. And ice storms. And we do get hurricanes. Not once have I ever seen U.S. support. But we send so much to you; and nothing in return. I'm just curious. If you can go back in time to say, 2 months ago, even your President said that the first rescuers he ran into were Canadians.

I (and many of my fellow citizens) are reaching the breaking point. We are reaching the point of no oil, no gas, no water, no trees, no energy.

2. I sure as hell hope so.
But with this gang of criminals in charge, I wouldn't count on the U.S. for a few years.

However, hopefully private U.S. citizens would step up to help in case of a disaster.

3. The US Coast Guard and Air Force...
Play a big part in Maritime Search and Rescue, even in Canadian waters. It's a reciprocal arrangement; whichever force is best suited to respond to a perticular emergency, does. The communication between agencies is excellent.

But, yeah, I hear ya.

And, as some of my compatriots have observed, we can count on the US "being there" for us when Quebec separates, or if the US has an official resource crisis, and we have what they need, ie water, hydro-electric power.... ;)

6. I'd like to say yes...
but with this awful administration, who can say. I (and I believe many on DU) would be more than happy to extend any help that we can--

I sincerely hope that things don't reach the proportions that you guys need our help. Are you saying that it is getting to that extent? Please forgive me if I seem dense...

 Hoping the storms aren't debilitating to Canada :grouphug:

7. We'd be happy to help
Just as soon as you repeal that "gay marriage" thing and that "marijuana" thing.

Oh — and about those lumber tariffs...

And what's this shit with those extra 'u's?

And it's pronounced "zee," dammit!

So, yeah — we'll help you. Just as soon as you become like us.

:sarcasm:

8. Remember the 'Ice Storm of '98'?
Edited on Tue Oct-25-05 02:04 AM by Breeze54
You might want to read this!
It's a report by Canadian and American Investigator's About planning
together how to handle the next disaster.

ICE STORM of '98
http://iclr.org/french/pdf/icestorm98%20english.pdf

It shows there is some collaboration between Canada and the US
in the event of an emergency.
Apparently we pasturized canadian milk for you due to the power
outages in 1998. Although the US was hit almost as hard by it!
I'm pretty sure we sent electrical worker's up from Maine too.

(CNN) --
Canada's worst ice storm on record wreaked havoc
in five eastern provinces, halting air travel,
shutting down the nation's busiest rail route
and forcing more than 3 million people Saturday
to endure another day without electricity.
The storm, which also descended on four U.S. states,
was being blamed for 10 Canadian deaths.

U.S. President Clinton declared five counties
in northern New York disaster areas Saturday,
which Gov. George Pataki said would help to provide
emergency generators, cots, blankets,
diapers and water to a still unknown number of stranded
people in the rural area.

* At least 10 dead
* More than 3 million people without electricity
* 5 provinces affected

When the temperatures inched above freezing Saturday morning
in Montreal, the ice-covered city began to thaw.

"It's like a defrosting fridge," remarked Lee Thomas,
co-owner of the Corner Snack Bar, a downtown restaurant.
Thomas had customers coming into her cafe all night.
Police officers brought in bread,
and waitresses begged customers for candles.

Saturday marked the sixth day of the icy onslaught.
