I have the upper hand. My cell phone contract finally ran out
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 08:19 AM by NNN0LHI
I am going to look around at some phones later today. Which is the best cell phone company around these days as far as coverage, price, and reliability? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

16. No two different numbers
My wife and I have a land line at home pretty much only for internet. It is the "Batphone" for extreme emergencies and for inclement weather (should the cells lose power).

Two different phones. But for god's sake don't try to upgrade the damned phone. :eye:

We were on the 500 minutes for $59 (+10 for the second phone) they have 1,500 minutes for $69 (+$10) or 2,100 for $79 (+$10) so I went with that. Two year contract. Pretty good coverage and supposedly no charge on the minutes if you are calling another Verizon phone.

Like I said above they did screw up the billing because there is no way I spent 300 minutes a month on the phone TOTAL let alone not to our folks who have Verizon. They were actually pretty good about clearing it up it was just that you have to dissect each bill. A real pain.

14. No kidding!
I get a bill from them every month and my service is with Cingular. I call them every month and tell them that and they always say "we'll take care of it", but they don't.

Seriously, I'm getting pissed with Cingular, but there's no way I'd go to Verizon.

2. I've had good fortune with Cingular.
But I know others have had issues with them. Consumer Reports rated Verizon the highest, IIRC.

4. Thats who I have now and have been pretty happy with them
I am just not close enough to one of their sites to use it at home. Not sure if that will improve with another company or not? Thanks for all you and the the other posters help. I will just look around some more. I have always gotten pretty good advice on these things from DUers.

5. I have had good luck with Sprint.
We have a family plan of 2000 minutes for $110 a month. Unlimited long distance, call waiting, the whole shebang.

I have had really good luck with the reception, the only place it doesn't work is in the house.

6. Another vote for Sprint
I've had Sprint for over 5 years now. Maybe 3 dropped calls in all that time. And the 2 times there were errors on my bill, one call to customer service and the quickly and politely corrected the problems.

13. I've known numerous people w/ Sprint PCS problems
like cutting off service and claiming bill wasn't paid over and over and over again. Charging for options that they didn't have. When my husband was being deployed he had them shut off his phone, close his account. Four months later I get a bill for over $400. Finally cleared it up 2 months later.

Heck, I have Sprint for my home phone (no other choice here on base) and have had to call the bank and get copies of my cancelled checks to prove to them that I paid twice within the last year. IMO, Sprint and Sprint PCS aren't worth the trouble.

17. Thanks for all the help but you won't believe what I have decided
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 07:57 PM by NNN0LHI
As I said my 2 year contract has run out with Cingular so I am now a month to month customer with no contract. I pay 30 bucks a month same as the old contract and the cheapest contract I can get from them now is 40 bucks a month. I would get a few more minutes and rollover with the new contract but I never use the minutes I am alloted now on the old one. So I am staying with them and the month to month deal for 30 bucks and see what happens. It doesn't sound too bad to me. Plus my 2 year old Motorola V-60 phone is still as good as new so thats not a problem. Thanks again.

18. I have nextel
They're not cheap and they tend not to have the cutest phones ever but my phone always works and my boss, who pays my service, has not mentioned any billing issues.

I don't know that they'd be my first choice for a personal line, though.
