oh, god help me, i want a kitten so badly
Mrs. V. will MURDALIZE me if I bring one home. Even though the only way I would would be if it were a roadside rescue.

HELP ME! Tell me things that will make me stop wanting a kitten.

I cannot ask someone else to resist either. They need to be put on a throne and adored. There are plenty of kittens out there who need to be adopted and spoiled rotten.

21. They. Are. Precious!
Petey's not a stinker - he is a sweet, lovable 20-lb chunk. He has the tiniest little mewling voice. He loves to grab your hand and lick & bite your fingers. And if anyone gets after anyone he loves, LOOK OUT!

26. That is the sweetest baby picture ever!
Petey is beautiful!

When Bitty and Mobley were that size they used to both sleep on my mousepad... I can't find their early baby pictures right now or I'd show you. They were the most precious little pair.

Mobley passed away from FIP, he caught it at the shelter where he was adopted from. His life was short but filled with love both giving and receiving.

Bitty (or Boo as I usually call him) is a lover. He uses his soft voice when he's in the mood for love. He'll climb up and lay a paw on my cheek while telling me how much he loves me. He runs the house and isn't ashamed to let anyone know it. If he's in a mood for his treats and you're not quick enough to get them he'll start bellowing as if someone were standing on his tail. He's a big boy now and colored like your Petey.

LOL! You know what? I now have the I want a kitten bug, too. :P

Generally very calm and set in their ways. More lap cat than kittens are. Star, adopted from the Humane Society at 4 years old, wants nothing more than to sit in my lap and be rubbed for a while.

You're right on. Older cats are absolutely wonderful, and are usually the ones euthanized in shelters because everyone wants a kitten.

My 8-year-old Sasha was on her last hours at a high-kill shelter when I adopted her...she's an absolute doll ;)

32. Sounds like my cat
He's about 9 and lived a hard life as an outdoor cat for seven years after being raised as an indoor kitten. Max is as mellow as can be, loves to sit in my lap, purring away, and is a wonderful companion. I don't know what I'd do without him, and I only adopted him a couple of months ago.

36. Couldn't agree more, Will.
I'm just full of sound & fury, ranting on about a kitten. We can't actually have anymore cats. We try to trap the strays & ferals who come here for food so there will be fewer strays & ferals. It's heartbreaking.

My best to Star. :hi:

40. On an only-slightly-related note...
Bertha, I was at the vet yesterday night with my (now my mom's) cats, and there was a woman there who very much made me think of you. Both in appearance, and the fact that she was there with her dog (pitt bull or similar?) who she had rescued 7 years ago from a breeding mill, where she was living year-round outside on a cement slab, really terrible conditions. So if it brightens your day at all, hearing about people who rescue animals makes me think of you! :)

51. It's brutal.
I am determined to trap the girl kitty who eludes my traps, and I am determined to do it when she's preggers. That way I can foster her kittles AND get her spayed when they're grown.

But for now I am content w/ my adult kittles. I'll go home and hug 'em and squeeze 'em and call 'em silly names.

55. LOL! "Flea Taxi" - how funny
I think a DUer has/d a cat named "Dammit" - cracked me up for days.

Anyway - Bertha - be careful what you wish for! I had for years adopted only stray cats -- all grown up by the time they made it to my door or neighborhood or whatever. Then one day I was thinking "damn, I'd love to see a kitten!" and lo and behold, Novi (MommaKitty) showed up within a day or two (obviously had given birth recently b/c of nipple condition) and a month later, she brought me her three tiny lovable sweet baby girl kitties. ACK! We found a home for one of them (though I still have plans to catnap her back - the guy is probably a good daddy but I just can't stand not having the family together) and have kept Novi and her two babes (Ingrid and Marilyn).

The things that make me hesitate about getting more at this point are (1) the HUGE cost of vet bills, flea meds, etc., and (2) being able to go on vacation and actually relax - I had a neighbor I used to trust absolutely but we've moved and I worry all the time when we're gone.

49. They grow up to be horrible pests
Who run across your head at 4am, jump up and land on your unprotected belly at 4:15, knock over the alarm clock at 4:30, knock over all the pictures on the dresser at 4:45, and start shredding the newspaper next to your bed (purely for the noise effect) at 5:00.

Then, when you finally get up and have your cereal, they try to hijack the spoon on its way to your mouth, like you're not going to notice that the spoon never got to its final destination.

Vermin, pests, true evil-doers.

And climbing into your lap while you watch TV at night, or pushing aside the book to get further up on your chest when you're laying in bed doesn't mitigate this morning hell.
