The "Sword of Truth" Series by Terry Goodkind
I've read all of them. Some on this board are getting fed up with his 'anti-socialist rhetoric'.

I don't really know what these people mean, because I'm condering the whole series as a work in progress; an unfinished painting, as it were. The anti-socialism... well, maybe I just don't see it.

The Order trying to destroy the Midlands? Is that it?

On the whole... I think the series is very well written thus far.

Anyone else concur/dissent? Speak up!

And if you haven't yet acquainted yourself with Zedd, Khalan, and Richard, read Wizard's First Rule, and then the others.

1. The Order=Socialism stood out

Big time
His last couple of books were getting heavy on the social commentary. I thought the series started out pretty well, but this whole need to attack social programs is bullshit.
The Order I felt is more of a communistic state than a socialist one for starters. He is correct in saying that every (wo)man needs to pull his own weight (like carrying all that iron across the city in one night), with great zeal he points out how large government is real baaaaad. I feel this all comes across as subtle being smacked across the face with a slice of lemon wrapped in a gold brick (props to doug adams.)
The books started out good, and went to shit around Temple of the Winds. I shudder to think how he drug the book out. He has a good story going but needs to realize that not everyone has to be at least 700 pages.
Oh, and his book dedications to the CIA is somewhat of an indication to the type of person he is.

2. The anti-socialism doesn't bother me so much...
the steady succession of rape scenes, does, though.

3. I didn't make it past the writing style
of the first book.

Read George R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" series instead. There's a lot of people here who will back me up on saying that it is the modern fantasy standard by which all other series should be judged.
