The new Johnny Cash Movie -
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 01:40 AM by DanCa
I was just wondering who's going to see this? While the trailer looks interesting I think Patrick Swayze isn't the right actor in the title role in this case. I may rent it though.

1. Patrick Swayze? It's J. Phoenix.
(Can't remember how to spell his first name). Swayze is too old to play a young Cash.

10. So are you going to see the movie?
I am. I grew up on Johnny Cash, and my dad used to sing a lot of his songs, so he's kind of a special person to me. Did you see his video of "Hurt"? Absolutely amazing video/song!

23. Ever seen the footage of his actual prison appearances?
What I found so amazing was that they let June Carter Cash appear with him. Not that she couldn't handle herself but supposedly they are so concerned about what the prisoners are exposed to, and here they let a woman perform live. Of course, if anyone had tried anything with June, I think Johnny would have stopped them before the guards had a chance to react!

I'm also going to see it. I love that man's music. My parents saw him live once, but unfortunately, it was when he was in his drunk and drugged state, and mom said the show was awful. Thank goodness he straightened out!

24. Johnny Cash was won of the few country singers that I can listen too.
That's how good he is and I don't like most country musicians. I can't wait to they release the sound track.

26. His singing/playing style is certainly unique.
Because of my dad, I grew up listening to country music, and I still like it, but I know a lot of people who like him who don't care for too much other country music.

28. Were just the opposite my old man made me listen to country too.
However that's probably why I don't like "most" of it. There are exceptions of course. But Johnny Cash was a phoenomea unto himself.

30. Cash transcended musical genres
He was inducted into both the Rock and Roll and Country Music Halls of Fame.

27. Cash is a God
To me he was the most American of musical artists; I can't think of anybody that comes close to him. Maybe Elvis, but that's about it.

And I'll always thank Rick Rubin for giving Cash the chance to record the "American" records that introduced him to a whole new generation, as well as making some of the most profound music of his entire career; knowing that he was in the winter of his life opened up a whole new aspect of his muse that resulted in some absolutely classic versions of songs by some artists that nobody would have ever dreamed thinking Cash could cover. let alone make his own.

He was an original..

So many bands sounds the same today, regardless of genere, Cash had the talent and charisma to go his own way.

34. Yes!
When his video "Hurt" came out, I taped it and showed it to my daughter and her boyfriend (25 and 27 respectively). They in no way liked country music, but were very impressed by him, and the power of his music.

35. If you don't have it
Get "American III"; it's my favorite of all the Rick Rubin produced albums of his. It's got my favorite song of all of his stuff of those albums called "I See A Darkness", which is written by Wil Oldham of Palace/Bonnie Prince Billy; it's devastating...
