7. they did but they sent it back to the legislature for them to
deal with it in 180 days.....it looks like gay rights will become a huge piece in the 2004 election.

10. I know this may sound heretical...
But the MA court ruling really bothers me.
Why?

Simple.

It gives the reich wing this big "issue" to distract everyone with, so we don't focus on Smirk and his goons, getting US soldiers killed so Halliburton can make tons of money, and Smirk can shove his agenda into the federal courts.

11. it would have happened anyway
Gay Marriage is the perfect wedge issue for republicans. It's just like abortion in that it's an issue that only affects the people who are clamoring for its passage.

Yes, the fight over gay marriage will become a distraction, but as long as we're winning it, it'll be worth it in the end.

12. I'm thrilled that this step toward true equality has been taken, but,
Magic Rat is right; it is going to be a masthead issue for the Repukes. Just as there are people out there who will excuse the Chimp for any sin, as long as he does not have an extra-marital affair, so there are people who will not care how many Americans are killed needlessly, as long as people they don't know can't get married, which is none of their business anyway. God, some people are screwed up!

13. How about we arrange a mass wedding of gay DUers in P-town?
Somebody on the news said there was a residency requirement but I can't find one so it looks like we should start planning for 180 days from now. Should be fun.

16. Uh, not to rain on the (gay pride) parade, but...
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 11:03 AM by chaska
that's not actually true. Read it again http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=3&u=/ap/20031118/ap_on_re_us/gay_marriage_7. The ban was struck down but they stopped short of allowing gay marriage. They will probably amend the Mass. constitution to prevent gay marriage.

I support the gay community, but man, is this ever a bad issue for us. I think we can kiss the Kerry campaign goodbye forthwith. And Dean will eventually be skewered on the same pike.

19. They can't amend it that fast
I don't know Mass. law but I'm pretty sure that they'll not only have to get an amendment through the legislature but it will have to be submitted to the voters at a statewide election.

17. i'm thrilled -- but you'll notice
folks are trying to rain on our parade already.
those who perceive reality better than we do.
not only are gay people and gay friendly folk providing cannon fodder to the repukes -- but we are damaging to the ultimate goal.
sigh-- sometimes i wonder why gay folk even try.
any way -- me and my mom and dad will be celebrating to day.
and blowing raspberys and flying the bird to the rest.
this is very exciting!

20. I'm just being a realist.
The "religious" reich desperately needs this non-issue to flog to death, to distract from all the failures from the people they have orgasms from, like Smirk, Rush, Savage Weiner, etc.

If gays want to marry, I have no problem with it at all.

Of course, then they can have all the fun associated with marriages too, like nasty divorces, custody fights, etc. :-)

But the fact is the froth-at-the-mouth gay haters are going to have major shitfits over anything that doesn't measure up to THEIR "ideal of the perfect family."

I totally support that. Who people want to spend their lives with is there own damn buisness and they aint hurtin nobody. Why should the government be able to say weather its wrong or right?! They shouldn't.
