1. Cable here......
we were on DSL for awhile, had to go back to dial up for financial reason, but got cable about 3 years ago. Could never go back to dial up.

5. Ouch.
As much as I use the Internets I would offer to dig line the last 1/3 of a mile and lay the line myself.

6. DSL...we JUST switched from dial-up
it's so nice to be able to listen to/watch newsclips, audio files, etc. It makes my whole DU experience a lot better.

8. DSL, but I'll probably switch to cable in February
I haggled my DSL contract to a much better deal than typical, but now the cable prices have gone down and it looks like a bundle with cable TV is superior. My contract ends in February. I also have one computer that I occasionally hook up to dial-up for basic emailing and web surfing. You just can't download anything of any size.

9. DSL — the slow kind
About 170 kbps. But I was pleasantly surprised to get even that, as I live in the burboonies, where cable isn't even available.

17. Try this
http://www.dslreports.com/stest

When I had a DSL I found a bunch of tweaks that were easy to apply that tripled my speed.

11. i have comcast broadband
but got sucked into the yahoo dsl offer (14.95 for a year). the box is sitting on my table unopened. it took me FOREVER to get the wireless router working properly and i'm not comfortable changing it yet.

can anyone give a comparison between the two?

12. Comcast Broadband
On the rare occasions I have to use dialup (at mom's or my sister's) it drives me bats**t, it's so slow.

Broadband is expensive, but since I work from home, my company reimburses me for the service. :7

13. Verizon Optical broadband
5mb up 2 down, $29.95 a month for a year and then $34.95 after that. Fucking Cable is maybe maybe 5-6 mb up off peak for $42.95 a month.
Verizon even has a 15mb up 3 down package for $39.95 first year and $44.95 month after that. And that's just residential.

Blows DSL and cable to shit, and doesn't suffer outages like cable for every little wind current or piss ant storm.

Oh forgot, got me fee phone now. No extra charge. I disconnected the phone to save $17 a month, now I got it back AND knocked $13.00 off my cable by switching to this.

Fuck the whores at the cable companies. They are like the oil companies, bleeding us for no extra cost except a crappy modem.

16. the thing i didn't like about cable-
was the way the speeds would c-r-a-w-l in the evening when people in the neighborhood get home from work and log on.
one bonus tho- 'free' basic cable tv for the price of a splitter.
but- i'm MUCH happier overall with my SBC DieSeL.
