Goodbye Mrs.A. RIP. One of my patients died tonight.
Mrs. A was a cool Lady. A lifelong dem/lib from Chicago. She was even clubbed by Mayor Dailey's goons when she protested at the Dem convention in 1968. This sweet lady has been in and out of a coma for a couple of weeks but I managed to get her alert when her White Sox won the whole thing last week. She smiled, said "I still dont believe it", and then went back to sleep.

A few months ago I ran a thread about how a patient of mine had to take extreme measures to get a room change because the wingnut family members of her comatose roommate kept Rush Limbaugh, Savage and Roger Hedgecock on the radio continuously. She had to go to the ombudsman and consulted a lawyer before the facility changed her room. That was Mrs. A!

Today, an old lover of hers who she hadn't seen in 25 years flew in from Chicago to see her. She was not conscious, but he stayed with her till he had to go out to get a bite to eat. A half hour after he left, I went in to check her blood sugar, and she was gone. He was so happy that he got to see her one more time. Damn I cried!

Goodbye Mrs. A! A lot of people will be missing you.

1. Good for you , my dear maveric......
You put the caring in health care, as the saying has it........

It's people like you who make hospitals, or nursing homes, or wherever you work, such good places for the sick and/or terminally ill to be.....

This is a wonderfully sweet story....thank you for posting it......

Mrs. A was lucky to have you taking care of her at the end of her life.....

You have such a big, generous, and loving heart, my dear maveric...

Don't ever lose it!

4. I'm not a doctor. LVN.
I just wished the doctors at some convalescent homes cared half as much.

5. Thank you for caring. My wife has been an RN for 27 years....
...and I've heard horror stories from her of co-workers who don't care. Thank you for your story.
