32. But did you know...
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 01:47 PM by eyepaddle
That it doesn't fuse four hydrogens directly? (The thermal/pressure window for H-He fusion is fairly narrow) but uses the "famous" Carbon Nitrogen Oxygen (CNO) reaction, where hydrogen is progressively added to a carbon until it kicks off a Helium--that reaction has a much wider range of acceptable temperatures and pressures.

Y'know, I HATED chemistry, but geochemistry was surprisingly fun--and not nearly as hard you'd think. At least the one quarter class I took. Never once have I used any geochem, but it was fun. Like watching Cosmos on steroids for ten weeks! :D

My freshman chem didn't touch on nuclear chemistry at ALL. I think hat might be why I liked geochem. It was taught by a geo. proffessor, it was just an elective, and I'd had a few years of practice.

Yayyyyyy Geology!

Back in the sixties Ton Lehrer composed a song of simply a listing of the elements. Then at the end of the song the final lines were,

There may be many others but they haven't been discovered."
