1. Menotti, Legeti, Stockhausen, Holst
The Unicorn, Requiem, Stimmung, and Holst's Choral Symphony are all favorites.

3. I guess I should weigh in on this...
I am a fan of Z. Randall Stroope these days. Lojeski may be my least favorite composer, but some of his older stuff is not bad. However it is a necessary evil to keep kids interested in Jr. High Choir. I don't mind making that concession.

7. Mantijaarvi (sp?)
his "De Profundis" is great.
Also Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols."
i had the opportunity to work with Bob Chilcott at Americafest2000. He composed the festival's comissioned work that year. He's fantastic.

David Hamilton, a New Zealand composer, is great. His settings of Barry Crump's poems are wonderful, especially "Mustering Bullock Creek."

i'm a 6 year and counting choirboy here, so i've had some exposure to these guys.

8. I'm painting my mountain house. I keep the Direct-TV on Classical Music.
I hear some great stuff. Good thing is, I can put down my brush/roller and check out the screen for the composer/artist/label.

Today I heard a fugue that was so counterpointal and minor in a haunting, melodious way, that I thought it a contemporary composer's harpsicord work. Nope. Old J.S. Bach. I got down from the high ladder too late to get the details.

BTW: Ever heard Bach's Acticus Tragicus? Especially the recorder duet? Too good for words.
