Ok, I'm the new guy here. I'm 19 years old, I live in Tampa Bay, and I am very interested in politics. I grew up in a conservative home, but after seeing teh hypocrisy of the right wing(mostly saying if you don't like the president you're unamerican..but they HATED Clinton). So now, I'm interested in leftists politics. I'm not that far left, but left enough I think to be accepted by ya'll. So, that's a little about me.

Just consider the merit about what everyone is saying.

The admins are good at getting rid of disrupters. They've made it known that this isn't the right place for praising the virtues of Antonin Scalia, for instance.

That said, we've got a wide variety of opinions here, even though we're all politically left of center (to varying degrees).

If you stick around long enough, you might get to meet a Lieberman supporter; they're rare and afarid of DU daylight....that's as far as it gets if you're looking for "right"-wingers 'round these parts. We don't want partisan debates; this is an oasis, not a sandbox.

So, what views and positions do you have that makes you think you are a Dem or part of the left?

Well, I'm not for the war(even though I realize pullin out now would be a devastatin loss to our troops). I will gladly point out the problems with America(something a conservative rarely does). I am for social security and unions. I'm also against blind nationalism. I think we should question every leader whether they be democratic or republican. I also realize that sometimes we must raise taxes when cutting spending doesn't work. I also think that America should adapt to chanigning environments, something A conservative is rabidly against.

or flamed. Does Free Republic allow lefties on their message boards? No. Do we allow neocon fundies on ours? No. And that's the way we like it.


Lieberman is an anti-first amendment hawk who expects no criticism levelled at him from the left for his views because he is a Jew. It's the same game Bush has been playing with his judicial nominees; he nominates a member of a minority who just so happens to be a right wing extremist (where he finds these weirdos, I have no clue) and the conservatives act all upset (deja vu??) and self-righteous when the Dems don't allow them to be appointed. It's a game of political dodgeball, in other words. Take a look at some of Lieberman's stances in the past, and you'll understand why some of us put him in the same league as Zell Miller: anti-video games, pro-war, pro-Israeli occupation, etc.

We are Democrats, Progressives, Greens, and more. We discuss, vent, and learn. Mostly I like reading the latest breaking news and everyone's take on it. It will be fun to hear what you have to say. Welcome.
