2. No reason to feel guilty about Santana.
Ever since Woodstock, Carlos has been just alright with me.

Wavy Gravy too.

20. Wavy Gravy once gave me a sip of his Zima
I was rather astounded to see him drinking such an odd beverage at a bar.

25. OMG! New Riders... The fact that someone even knows about
them, and Santana, astounds me! Really! :) I was 17 years old and New Riders and the Purple Sage rocked. Go figure. Now I live in TX and HATE most country music.

26. I've been a very lucky lady
My big sis took me to my first rock festival when I was 14 in 1969. Newport Pop, headlined by Jimi Hendrix. That will remain the ultimate concert I was ever lucky enough to attend. I got to meet my other heroes , Led Zep on a plane once flying home from seeing them in concert, missed a plane, got transferred to another flight and voila, we were the only other passengers with the band on the entire plane! It was sweeeeeeeeet!

Let's talk rock! Do you love Jerry Garcia?

27. Wow, we are just about the same age. I was 13 in '69. I'm
totally impressed you got to see Hendrix and meet Led Zep, the icons of the era. Even to this day, they are practically unmatched!
I wasn't a big Deadhead at all, unlike many of my peers. I veered towards Pink Floyd, Allman Bros., and rock-lite, i.e., Joni Mitchell, Carol King, CSNY, etc. I also really liked The Kinks and Little Feat. Also, around that time frame, I was introduced to jazz and loved it. Had this bass player for a boyfriend at the time, and that's about the only good thing to result from that relationship!

28. I love all those bands too
and have grown up to love jazz and blues. I was pretty thrilled to see Roger Waters join Pink Floyd for Live8. I heard that in London, they had billboards saying "Pigs are flying" since basically, that's when Waters said he would play with the rest of the band again! I saw PF once; I would have loved to have seen them with him. We love Little Feat too...they are a vastly underrated band. And being from L.A., I have always loved the Doors. Morrison was the first man I ever thought was "hot!" Something really strange but cool happened a couple of years ago. My 7th grade boyfriend tracked me down via our high school alumni page and made me a 2 cd set of that Hendrix set from 1969! The same weekend I went to Newport Pop, he saw the Doors in Hollywood for two bucks!!!

We're going to see Jethro Tull in a couple of weeks. Ian Anderson is one of the most talented musicians I've ever seen. I'm excited for my husband to see him.

I wish I still had my stack of ticket stubs from all the shows over the years. They would have made a really cool scrapbook. I'm glad to hear from other folks who have the same music tastes as we do!

6. I never get tired of listening to that guy.
I've been listening to his music, and enjoying it like a fine wine, for over 30 years now (dating myself there).

Want to hear something funny? My kid's clothes look exactly like the ones we wore in the late-60's/early-70's; it's all coming back into style!

glad he got the recognition he deserved. To this day, "Smoothe" is a major hot song for me. I hope his new album gets good reviews.

16. Me, too!
I guess he was surprised a few years back when his old record-producing friends suggested the Supernatural album idea - and it was a huge success!

I'm checking around - when he comes to one of our Casinos in the Temecula/San-Diego area, I'm going!

9. Here's a dumb question for the fans
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 12:15 AM by Montauk6
Is Carlos the one who's singing on "Black Magic Woman" and "Evil Ways"?

Edit: I know he's doing the excellent guitar work but was he his own lead vocalist or was it someone else?

15. Gregg Rolie was the singer.
No, I'm not that smart, I googled.

http://www.nj.com/weblogs/print.ssf?/mtlogs/cleve_musicreviews/archives/print015445.html
(warning, the link will try to print.)

"On Santana's first three albums (Santana, Abraxas, Santana lll), the band created a seamless groove out of the rhythms, Santana's rock guitar, and cool-zombie vocals, mostly from keyboardist Gregg Rolie (who later went on to wild commercial success with Journey). This combo of Afro/Latin jungle vibe and rock sensibility has not been equalled before or since.

"Evil Ways" and "Black Magic Woman," from the first album and Abraxas, respectively, are companion pieces propelled by the voodoo rhythms of seduction and darkness. Singer Rolie's vocals are perfect because he sounds like a man under a spell. On these songs Santana succeeds in having it both ways: the seduction and allure of "evil" rhythms within cautionary tales decrying the usage of those rhythms by evil women."

32. Santana's Tuesday night show (Nov 1) is being streamed for free right now
Go to his website and there's a link that will take you to the Santana show at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC from three nights ago.
It's being streamed through realplayer (it's two hours long).

I was at it. He can still play that guitar.:) :)
